Her Body

This isn’t about gratuitous body parts. This isn’t to be titillating or sexual. Words leave an invisible stain upon a person, good, bad and in between. They soak into the skin, seep into every fiber, and simmer with each heartbeat. Coupled with an abusive persuasion and they can leave scars behind no one can see. Women’s bodies are the constant target of inspection and scrutiny. We are told repeatedly what is wrong with each and every cell of our existence. These pieces reflect years of hatred and vitriol upon one woman. Multiply that times 4.13 billion, and the world is a difficult place to be female. - Amanda C. Burns 2026
