Today in (my) Rock history.

33 years ago today I saw Spin Doctors with Soul Asylum and The Screaming Trees at Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville TN. Grunge had completely overtaken the country and while I wasn't buying most of it I did like The Screaming Trees. And like most if the grunge bands their life was short lived, but I'm glad I got to see them.

34 years ago today I saw Spinal Tap at Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville TN. That's right!! THE Spinal Tap!! The tour was called "Break Like The Wind" and they played all the Tap favorites and then some. All the stage theatrics were included: the mini Stonehenge and the bass player stuck in the cocoon. It was FANTASTIC and they sounded great!! A show for the storybooks.

Today in (my) Rock history.
It's a offer today.

38 years ago today I saw Robert Plant at The Muny in St. Louis MO. I'm sorry to say I don't remember this show much at all. It was the late 80's and I was in my early 20's so I was probably self medicating.

37 years ago today I saw Ratt with Warrant and Great White at Deer Creek Music Center in Nobelsville IN. I do remember this show because I was REALLY into Great White and I had just seen them a few months earlier and I also love Ratt. Great show in an outdoor facility.

10 years ago today I saw the Farm Rock Festival at Marathin Music Works in Nashville TN. Don't let the name fool you, it was a total 80's Rock show with Vince Neil, Kix, Vixen, Ted Poley, John Carabi, Steelheart, Killer Dwarfs, and Faster Pussycat. It was hosted by Bobbi Brown (Warrant Cherry Pie Girl) Total 80's fest and a great show in a small venue.

5 years ago I saw Drivin n Cryin at Boatyard Eats in Huntersville NC. The first show I saw post-covid and it marked the return of live music to which I am eternally grateful!! I also live ghis band.

Due to technical difficulties, I've got alot of catching up to do so I'm doing this WEEK in (my) Rock history.

May 26th!
38 years ago I saw Pink Floyd at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City MO. My 1st Pink Floyd concert and one band I thought I might never get to see. Needless to say it was an unbelievable spectacle!! I would be lucky enough to see them 3 more times after this.

May 28th!
15 years ago I saw Jimmy Buffett at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville TN. I'm not a big fan of Buffett but the tickets were free, and I'm glad I got to say I've seen him live. He put on a great show.

Now for May 30th! I saw 2 shows on this date.
28 years ago I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd with Peter Frampton and 38 Special. Talk about a classic rock all star lineup! All 3 bands are favorites of mine and 38 Special always sounds just like the album when they play live!

22 years ago I saw Andrew W.K. with Fireball Ministry at Exit/In in Nashville TN. This one was all about Fireball Ministry!! If you don't know about this band then you've got homework to do. They were supporting my favorite album of theirs, "The Second Great Awakening" and were spectacular! I met the band and got autographs from all of them after the show.

May 31st!
38 years ago I saw Nazareth at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis MO. It was my first Nazareth show and their 20th Anniversary tour and most of the original members were there. GREAT show!!

June 2nd!
38 years ago I saw AC/DC with Kings X at St. Louis Arena in St. Louis MO. AC/DC was on the Blow Up Your Video tour and were phenomenal as always. My all time favorite band!

28 years ago I saw Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (aka Page/Plant Band) at Nashville Arena in Nashville TN. This was as close as I would get to seeing Led Zeppelin and it would just have to do. Plant still had a great voice and Jimmy Page was great as always. Loved hearing the Zeppelin tunes in that way.

June 3rd!
38 years ago I saw Joe Satriani at Mississippi Nights in St. Louis MO. He was touring on Surfing With The Alien and this was his breakout album that introduced the world to Joe Satriani and made instrumental Rock albums mainstream and cool. That boy can play and it was awesome to see him in a small club supporting a monster album.

12 years ago I saw Jack Johnson at Ameris Bank Amphitheater in Alpharetta GA. You are probably wondering what I was doing at this show, and under normal circumstances you would be justified in asking, but it was the my daughter's favorite singer and the first concert I got to take her too. She just graduated from high school and this was my gift to her. It was a gift for me to see how excited she was to go.

A concert is more than just a night out with live music. Its an entire event that requires an itinerary and pre production planning! Or maybe that's just me. 😁

Find out about all my crazy quirks and pre show panic on this week's episode of Tales From The Rail.

Tune in this Thursday night at 8pm. at the very least, to get a good laugh at my expense. Click on the link in the comments and we will see you there.

Today in (my) Rock History.

40 years ago today I saw my first Metallica concert with Armored Saint at the Cape Arena in Cape Girardeau MO. They were supporting Master of Puppets and little did we know that just a few months after this show we would lose Cliff Burton in a tragic accident. It began a lifelong love of seeing Metallica live!

37 years ago today I saw Cinderella with Winger and Bullett Boys at Srarwood Amphitheater in Antioch TN. The Long Cold Winter tour was roaring and I saw this tour multiple times. Cinderella is one of my favorite bands from the Hair Metal era still to this day.

7 years ago I saw Avantasia at The Palladium in Worcester MA. If you are not familiar with Avantasia, they are a progressive Metal band from Germany with one of the best voices ever in Tobias Sammett. They are in my top 25 bands and rarely tour the US. My son, Kory, also likes them so as a birthday gift to him (and me) we made the trip to Massachusetts and it was nothing short of spectacular!!!

Today in (my) Rock History.

41 years ago today I saw Triumph with Mountain at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis MO. This was the Thunder Seven Tour which happens to be my favorite Triumph album, (Allied Forces is a VERY close second). And getting to see Leslie West with Mountain was a special treat also. This show is high on my list of all time favorites.

Ironically enough. I am going to see Triumph again tomorrow night with April Wine! Canada will be well represented for certain.

Today in (my) Rock History.

33 years ago today I saw Dream Theater with Every Mother's Nightmare at Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville TN. The Annual 103 KDF $25,000 Cash Bash featured 2 awesome bands! Grunge was working its way across America but KDF kept the Hard Rock flag flying.

11 years ago today I saw Kamelot with Dragonforce at Iron City in Birmingham AL. It was the day before my son, Korys 17th Bday and Dragonforce is one of his favorite bands! Being the wonderful father I am, I took him to see them for his birthday. He got to meet members of Dragonforce after the show and got pictures and autographs from them. It was one of the most special concert moments for both of us.
