Buckcherry + Black Stone Cherry took over Jannus Live in St. Pete last night — bringing two very different takes on the same unapologetic rock ’n’ roll spirit. Black Stone Cherry, straight out of Kentucky. Buckcherry, representing Los Angeles. Different roots, same volume.And Buckcherry? Today in (my) Rock history.

38 years ago today I saw Lynyrd Skynyrd with The Rossington Band at The Fabulous Fox Theatre in St Louis MO. The tour from 87-88 was a tribute tour honoring the 10 year anniversary of the tragic plane crash. Johnny Van Zant joined the band to fill the singer role and was joined by original members Gary Rossington, Billy Powell, Leon Wilkeson, Ed King and Artimus Pyle. Randall Hall filled in on guitar for Allen Collins who was paralyzed in a 1986 car accident. It was my first time to see Skynyrd and I remember they played Freebird instrumentally with just Ronnies hat on a microphone stand illuminated by a single spotlight.

It was really cool to see Don Dokken and George Lynch playing together again, last night, after so many years. It was heartbreaking to see Don's condition. Even though he can't hit the notes anymore, he's band was incredible and he gave 100 of what he has left. I got respect for that. Lynch Mob was fantastic opening the show.

Today in (my) Rock history.

I've got some catching up to do so this includes the last 3 days.

38 years ago on Aug 21st I saw AC/DC with White Lion at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville TN. It's AC/DC so of course it was awesome. This is one of the 3 times I saw them on this tour. White Lion was great also!!

40 years ago on Aug. 22nd I saw Judas Priest with Krokus at Starwood Amphitheater in Nashville TN. My first time to see both bands and the only time I've seen Krokus. JP was on the Turbo tour and both bands killed it!! I love Krokus and wish I would have seen them more often.

11 years ago on Aug. 22nd I saw AC/DC with Vintage Trouble at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough MA. This was a Rock n Roll field trip as I took my son Kory Cooke out of school early and we flew to Boston for his 1st AC/DC concert. We spent the weekend in Boston and made memories I will cherish forever.

41 years ago today I saw Ratt with Y&T and Mama's Boys at Mesker Music Theater in Evansville IN. This was a great show with Y&T blowing the roof off!!

40 years ago today I saw David Lee Roth with Cinderella at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville TN. DR'S first tour solo "Eat em and Smile" with an all-star band lineup, and it was incredible. I liked Cinderella but I loved them after seeing them live.

18 years ago today I saw Stonerider with Mark These Words at Limelight in Nashville TN. This band released 1 full length album and Tod Taber and I with the Finkys saw them in this little club in the middle of the day and they were great!! After they played we hung out with them in the parking lot for about an hour or so and had some "refreshments". Good times.

4 years ago today I saw Jack Johnson with Ziggy Marley at PNC Music Pavillion in Charlotte NC. Not my brand of music for sure but I took people who do.
