If you've ever heard someone in your firm say, "We should really be using Salesforce," or "I heard XYZ CRM is better," you're not alone.

Many firms feel pressure to prove they've evaluated other CRM platforms, whether it's from employees, leadership, or simply wanting confidence that they made the right decision.

We always suggest reframing the question from, "is there a better CRM out there?" to "which CRM is best aligned with our firm's business goals and objectives?"

To help these conversations at your firm, we’ve created a high-level comparison of the most popular CRM systems in AEC.

If your CRM feels chaotic, reports aren't trusted, or your team follows five different versions of the same process, it's time to step back and map the journey.

Process mapping is one of Courtney Kearney, FSMPS, CPSM's favorite topics, and she's looking forward to diving into it at the SMPS Southwest Regional Conference in Denver, CO.

Why process mapping? Because you can't fix a process you can't see! Pausing to document reveals hidden gaps, creates shared accountability, and uncovers opportunities for automation so your team can spend less time fixing data and more time using it.

If haven't registered for SMPS SWRC yet, the August 28 deadline is approaching fast! Check out the full schedule and register here: https://smpsswrc.com/

“Data for data's sake is just typing into a CRM.” 👏

We love this tangent Katelyn Litalien from Enarche Design went on during a recent Data Dialogue!

Courtney asked about the must-have CRM fields, but Katelyn pointed out that there's a more important question to ask first:

What are you actually going to do with the information?

The right fields aren't the same for every firm. They should connect back to what you're trying to accomplish, the questions you need to answer, and the decisions you need to make.

What's the AEC marketing blind spot no one talks about?

AEC marketing and BD often run on instinct, spreadsheets, and institutional knowledge.

But when marketing is accountable for firm growth, the entire function changes: what you invest in, what you cut, what you report on, and how you talk to leadership.

Join Courtney Kearney and guest data nerd Julie Huval for a Data Dialogue about what it takes to move marketing from supporting firm growth to actively driving it.

Courtney Kearney is back at work after , sharing what she learned, the conversations she had, and the ideas that were sparked. She brought back tons of energy and optimism, always a sign of an excellent conference.

Some of the highlights were connecting with data nerds from across the country, giving back to SMPS Foundation, and walking the yellow brick road. There's no place like SMPS!

What are LEGO Courtney Kearney and Sarah Kinard talking about in this picture? Data, of course! 😉 🤓

Specifically, they're talking about The Flamingo Project's 2026 A/E/C Growth Strategy Survey. Sarah and Courtney unpacked the results in a recent webinar, but 30 minutes wasn't enough time for all the insights.
