ISAIAS REMNANTS UPDATE 10/11 11:30
At least 4 confirmed deaths so far from Isaias and its remnants:
- 2 in Florida (both Escambia County : one from a tree falling on a home near Pensacola, and one from carbon monoxide poisoning after a generator was run in a closed garage)
- 2 in Alabama (one in the Birmingham/Jefferson County area when a tree fell on a home, and one in Barbour County).
No confirmed deaths reported yet in Mississippi, South Carolina, North Carolina, or Tennessee.
GENERATOR CAUTION: One of those Florida deaths was carbon monoxide poisoning. Never run a generator indoors, in a garage (even with the door open), or near open windows or doors. Carbon monoxide is odorless, colorless, and deadly. Keep the generator outside, at least 20 feet from the house, with the exhaust pointed away from any openings. Have working CO detectors. If you feel dizzy, nauseous, or have a headache while using a generator, get to fresh air immediately.
Extra caution today across central and western North Carolina as the remnants of Isaias keep moving through with a strong line of storms.
As of the 10:06 AM ET update, Moore and Montgomery counties were under a new Tornado Warning until 10:30 AM after radar indicated rotation near Biscoe moving northeast at 35 mph. A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 5 PM for central and eastern North Carolina (covering the Triangle, Sandhills, Fayetteville, and Wilmington down to the coast) plus Dillon, Horry, Marion, and Marlboro counties in South Carolina. Conditions are still favorable for quick spin-up tornadoes and damaging winds with the line.
Flash Flood Warnings are still active in parts of Burke and Caldwell until 1:15 PM, Avery/Burke/Caldwell until 1 PM, and Buncombe, Henderson, Polk, and Rutherford until 11 AM.
Western North Carolina has already seen significant rainfall :
- Caldwell County picked up 7.19 inches
- McDowell 6.66 inches
- Henderson 6.40 inches. Rain has mostly tapered off in the mountains and the Flood
Watch ends at 2 PM, but rivers and saturated ground remain a concern. The South Fork New near Jefferson moved into minor flood, while the Watauga at Foscoe and Rocky Broad at Bat Cave are falling. Ashe, Watauga, and Wilkes are under a Flood Advisory until 4 PM.
If you’re in or near the affected areas:
• Stay weather-aware and have a way to get alerts.
• Know your safe spot ahead of time — lowest level of a sturdy building, interior room without windows.
• Turn around, don’t drown. Never drive through flooded roads.
• Watch for downed trees, power lines, and debris once the storms pass.
• Check on neighbors, especially anyone who may need extra help.
We’ll keep monitoring conditions. Stay safe out there and look out for each other.
