We are thrilled to announce the opening of 𝗱𝗰 𝗹𝗮𝗯, a new space by 𝗱𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 dedicated to exhibitions, experimentation, research, and dialogue around contemporary art.

𝗱𝗰 𝗹𝗮𝗯 opens this November with a solo exhibition by Cuban artist Carlos Garaicoa, our next Artist-in-Residence, presented in collaboration with Galleria Continua and mor charpentier.

Join us for two special events marking the opening of this new chapter for 𝗱𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

𝗱𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 episode # 6: Luis Fernando Zapata | 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 (1989)

This looks like a boat… but it also seems to be something else. And that ambiguity is precisely Luis Fernando Zapata’s intention. 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 is inspired by the idea of the vessel as a symbol of journey, the passage of time, and memory.

The work incorporates papier-mâché, natural pigments, and bones. Each of these materials connects us to the earth and to ancestral cultures. In a way, it is a metaphor for the human journey. A journey through memory and life.

Esto parece una barca… pero también parece otra cosa. Y esa ambigüedad es precisamente la intención de Luis Fernando Zapata. 𝘉𝘢𝘳𝘨𝘦 está inspirada en la idea de la embarcación como símbolo del viaje, del paso del tiempo y de la memoria.

Utiliza papier-mâché, pigmentos naturales y huesos. Cada uno de estos materiales nos conecta con la tierra y con las culturas ancestrales. Es, en cierto modo, una metáfora del viaje humano. Un viaje a través de la memoria y de la vida.

Celebramos la adquisición de una obra de Luis Fernando Zapata para la colección de Tate.

Join us for the presentation and conversation with our current artist-in-residence, Miler Lagos, and curator and art historian Carol Damian, Ph.D., starting Tonight at 6:30 p.m. at 𝗱𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

During his residency in Miami, Miler has been developing a new body of sculptures and assemblages using oolite stone, Hemingway stone, and other imported stones, exploring questions of time, adaptation, and memory as they are inscribed in minerals and soil.

Preparations are underway for the upcoming presentation and conversation with our current artist-in-residence, Miler Lagos, and curator and art historian Carol Damian Ph.D., next Tuesday, October 13, starting at 6:30 p.m. at 𝗱𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

During his residency in Miami, Miler has been developing a new body of sculptures using oolite stone, Hemingway stone, and native plants, exploring questions around gentrification, urban development, and the transformation of Miami’s landscape.

Drawing inspiration from the city’s foundations and the materials embedded in its built environment, the project reflects on the relationship between nature, architecture, memory, and the continuous transformation of the city.

Join us next Tuesday for a first look at the works and a conversation about the research and ideas behind the project.

Ultimando detalles para la próxima presentación y conversación con nuestro actual artista en residencia, Miler Lagos, y la curadora e historiadora del arte Dr. Carol Damian, el próximo martes 13 de octubre, a partir de las 6:30 p. m., en 𝗱𝗰 𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻.

Durante su residencia en Miami, Miler ha estado desarrollando un nuevo cuerpo de esculturas utilizando piedra oolita, Hemingway stone y plantas autóctonas, abordando temas relacionados con la gentrificación, el desarrollo urbano y la transformación del paisaje de Miami.

Inspirándose en los basamentos de la ciudad y en los materiales que forman parte de su entorno construido, el proyecto reflexiona sobre las relaciones entre naturaleza, arquitectura, memoria y la continua transformación de la ciudad.

We are happy to celebrate our former artist-in-residence, Mihael Milunović, and his solo exhibition, 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘰𝘴𝘵𝘶𝘮𝘦 𝘏𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘊𝘳𝘢𝘤𝘬 𝘪𝘯 𝘐𝘵, at Steinhauser Gallery in Bratislava.

Curated by Jovana Ilić, the exhibition marks Milunović’s return to the gallery with a new body of work.

𝗱𝗰 𝗰𝗼𝗳𝗳𝗲𝗲 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸 episode # 4: Herbert Hamak | Ultramarineblau Dunkel

The real work is not the blocks themselves… It is the light that passes through them and washes the space in blue.

Each piece changes depending on the time of day, where we stand, and the light it receives. We never see it exactly the same way twice. Hamak does not use color simply to cover a surface, but to transform the space we inhabit.

A coffee, a work of art, and a conversation.

La verdadera obra no son los bloques… es la luz que los atraviesa y tiñe el espacio de azul.

Cada pieza cambia según la hora del día, el lugar desde donde la miramos y la luz que recibe. Nunca la vemos exactamente de la misma manera dos veces. Hamak no utiliza el color simplemente para cubrir una superficie, sino para transformar el espacio que habitamos.

Join us next Tuesday, October 13, from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. for an exhibition and conversation with our current artist-in-residence, Colombian artist Miler Lagos, and professor and curator Carol Damian, Ph.D.

Miler’s work examines how human intervention alters natural systems, questioning our role within their delicate balance. Through sculpture and installation, he combines industrial materials with artisanal processes, creating a dialogue between the ephemeral and the enduring, the natural and the constructed.

Dr. Damian is the Curator of the Kislak Collection at Miami Dade College’s Freedom Tower and the Curator of the Chapel of La Merced at Corpus Christi Church in Miami. She currently serves as Chair of the Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places Trust.

La obra de Miler examina cómo la intervención humana altera los sistemas naturales, cuestionando nuestro papel dentro de su delicado equilibrio. A través de la escultura y la instalación, combina materiales industriales con procesos artesanales, creando un diálogo entre lo efímero y lo perdurable, lo natural y lo construido.

La Dra. Damian es curadora de la Kislak Collection en la Freedom Tower de Miami Dade College y de la Capilla de La Merced en Corpus Christi Church, Miami. Actualmente preside el Miami-Dade County Art in Public Places Trust.
