Today’s Board Member Spotlight:
Emma Dusendang!

Emma has been on the CAAC Board for 1.5 years, serving as a board member and managing our social media. Learn a little more about her below!

A little about Emma:
I am currently a full-time student at Grand Valley State University heading into year 4 of 5 as a vocal music education major. I hope to teach lower elementary students, though my certification could take me anywhere K–12! I’m also entering my third year as a resident assistant and work at the 2020 Desk in Kirkhof Center. Coopersville has been home since third grade, and I hope to stay close to this community for years to come.

What inspired you to be a part of CAAC?
When Kristen reached out about joining the board, I immediately said yes! I had participated in theater camp and attended CAAC events growing up, but I didn’t realize how much the organization does for our community. As a future music educator, I love seeing the arts bring people together and wanted to help create those opportunities for others.

What do you enjoy most about serving on the CAAC board?
Running our social media has been so much fun! I’ve loved becoming more involved with CAAC and am excited to help share everything happening in our community, especially the growth of 2nd Act Theater Co.

Favorite thing about the Coopersville community?
Coopersville is truly special. I’ve never seen a community so supportive of and invested in one another!

What coming up in the future are you most excited about with CAAC?
Right now, I’m most excited for the continued growth of our theater company and the opportunity to music direct again!

Thank you Emma for all your hard work and everything you contribute!

We’re still looking for production staff and pit musicians!

As we prepare for 2nd Act Theater Co.’s first production, The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, we’re looking for people who are excited to help bring this show to life. We’re especially seeking a director and pit musicians—including a pianist and drummer—but we’d also love to hear from anyone interested in being part of the production team.

If you’re interested, email [email protected] or send us a DM to start the conversation.

More information about auditions, production roles, and other opportunities will be shared as we get closer, so stay tuned!

Today’s Board Member Spotlight:
Megan Sorenson!

Megan has been on the board of CAAC for a total of 1 year, and recently became our new president! Learn a little about her below….

What inspired you to be apart of CAAC?
My desire to re-engage with the arts stems from a lifelong connection to performance and creative expression. After attending performing arts college, I returned home during the COVID-19 pandemic, became a single mother, and ultimately built a career as a licensed esthetician. Each of these experiences has shaped who I am today, both personally and professionally. Growing up immersed in the arts made me deeply aware of its lasting impact on personal development. Arts education fosters empathy, discipline, resilience, and compassion in ways that are difficult to replicate elsewhere. I strongly believe that every individual deserves access to these opportunities. It would be an honor to contribute to the mission of the Coopersville Area Arts Council by sharing my time, skills, and perspective to help support awareness, fundraising, and arts education within the community.

What do you enjoy most about serving on the CAAC board?
I enjoy the community outreach the most. I help with the summer camp by showing all of the students how to do their stage makeup for the show and it is one of the highlights of my summer

Favorite thing about the coopersville community?
My favorite thing about the Coopersville community is their love for their hometown in general. No matter what no matter where when you call, the community shows up.

What coming up in the future are you most excited about with CAAC?
I am most excited to plan and produce new and exciting events that cover a more wide range of age groups and activities!

Thank you Megan for all you contribute!
