Storyteller House for the Arts was founded with the goal of creativity availability for adult artists, offering a supportive and inspiring environment for art of all kinds to be possible. Many talented artists have joined the cause, and the House offers classes across all mediums, including visual, performing, culinary, and literary arts. We Believe:
Everyone is an artist. Every artist's work is i

mportant. Every artist deserves the opportunity to create, collaborate, inspire, and be inspired. We believe that a community is only as strong as the opportunities it provides its artists, and every additional chance to offer art and support for artists is a chance for the community to grow. Many Storyteller classes are designed for 'non-artists' to find their creativity, and others are created to inspire and push existing artists to new places in their passions. The House is also home to a revolving gallery of artists' work, featuring a new artist every 2 months. Public gallery hours are available throughout the month. Just when the Martin family thinks they've survived one impossible family gathering, they're called back to Rose Hill, Mississippi, for one more request. Charged with sorting through generations of family possessions and deciding what becomes of the family's legacy, the cousins return to find that grief, resentment, and unfinished business are still taking up more space than anything stored in the garage.

As memories surface and long-buried tensions reignite, a prized family car becomes the center of a growing battle over inheritance, identity, and belonging. Long-estranged relatives emerge, loyalties are tested, and everyone seems to have their own idea of what should be kept—and who deserves it.

Filled with humor, heart, and the messy complexities of family, The Garage is a poignant and hilarious exploration of what we inherit, what we leave behind, and the ties that bind us even when we'd rather drive away.

I wrote my first play when I was ten and it was terrible.

Discovered in a trunk of childhood memorabilia, it had been typed out very slowly in Microsoft Word 95, on the family’s IBM computer, totaling five pages, including a cover page created in Paint. Apparently I also fancied myself a designer.

The characters? Undeveloped. The plot? Pretty vague. The dialogue? Crap, typed out.

But that little ten-year-old version of myself wanted to be a writer, a playwright even, and without permission or guidance, she sat right down and wrote a play. Because although she didn’t know why, she knew it was what she was supposed to do.

I’m throwing that 1995 version of myself a high five as tickets go on sale tomorrow for The Garage, the fourth original script produced by Storyteller House, taking the stage at CPAC in July.

Encourage young artists, fan the flames of creativity, never give up on your own creative pursuits. Sing the song, do the dance, paint the picture, write the play. The world needs you; now more than ever.
