World Elephant Day 2026 is Wednesday, August 12th. The global observance is dedicated to raising awareness about the critical threats facing African and Asian elephants and advocating for their protection.

Elephants hold a special place in hearts of members of Delta Sigma Theta stemming from the love of the species by founder 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐭𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐬 whose personal collection inspired a long-standing unofficial collection tradition.

There are roughly 400,000 African and 50,000 Asian elephants left in the wild. Their populations continue to plummet due to illegal poaching for the ivory trade, human-wildlife conflict, and habitat destruction. Elephants are vital to maintaining forest and savanna ecosystems, dispersing seeds, and creating pathways that benefit other wildlife.

National Black Business Month celebrates the achievements, innovation, and lasting impact of Black-owned businesses across the United States. The observance recognizes the vital role these businesses play in strengthening local economies, creating jobs, fostering entrepreneurship, and building wealth within communities.

It also encourages consumers, organizations, and government agencies to support Black-owned businesses through purchasing, partnerships, mentorship, and investment. National Black Business Month serves as an opportunity to highlight the contributions of Black entrepreneurs while promoting equitable access to resources that help businesses grow and thrive.
