GIVING AWAY ASSETS (listed below): SERIOUS INQUIRIES ONLY to [email protected]. Please read entire post for all detail before reaching out. We would like to find good homes for these items by end of June.
Solo Opera is in the process of closing our doors. Per the State Attorney General, we need to pass on our assets (3-4 opera sets, and some ballet costumes) to another arts nonprofit with the same 501c3 educational category who is in good standing/current with all filings (including federal and state taxes, Secretary of State- Statement of Information, and CA State Attorney General -yearly RRF-1.)
The way it will work is as follows:
1. We locate a 501c3 that will commit in writing to taking the asset/s.
2. Submit this request to the CA State Attorney General to get a waiver and confirm the transfer meets their standards. (PLEASE NOTE THIS COULD TAKE AT LEAST 4 MONTHS). Group would need to submit a letter to Solo Opera on nonprofit stationary with their EIN # and CA State #, Address, Copy of Articles of Incorp. showing their 501c3 educational status, and proof of their good standing with all filings (could be a link to the online versions).
3. Once approved by AG, we can donate the items to the new nonprofit.
If interested in the following opera/theatrical sets, please reach out to us at [email protected].
Since it would be too complicated to approve and give out separate pieces, we are looking for a group/s who can take all sets or at least one full set. We have photos for all and for some we have set plans/renderings so you can see the dimensions of the pieces upon request. Many photos on our website as well. All are designed by the incomparable opera scenic designer Peter Crompton and built by Rooster Productions. So, if you reuse the items as they were intended, credit needs to be given to them for design/ build and to Solo Opera for the donation. Rooster loaded in and built our sets, so a future group could reach out to hire them if they wanted to remount the shows.
Note: Props, costumes, and furniture shown in photos not owned by Solo Opera except for ballet costumes-only the actual scenic pieces. Projections also not included (but you could reach out to Peter Crompton concerning those.) Original value of items shared upon request. Market value now unknown. MUST BE ABLE TO PICK UP ITEMS WITH YOUR OWN LARGE TRUCK AND CREW AND HAVE YOUR OWN STORAGE TO ACCOMMODATE THE ITEMS.
