Hey everyone! This is Travis, the owner. I have some big news: moving forward, the Jellyfish Warehouse will be a hobby for me. Starting this Autumn I will be returning to school to pursue higher education and a career in research (on jellyfish!)
This was an incredibly tough decision that has been heavy on my mind for years now. In 2021, the Jellyfish Warehouse grew exponentially and became the largest jellyfish company in America. We realized my original goal of making jellyfish affordable and available to everyone and I’m proud of that. But ultimately, it was unsustainable for me. I routinely worked 12 hour days, 7 days a week nonstop for years. Some would call this the “American dream” but I began to realize it wasn’t my dream. My health (mental and physical) took a steep decline and spending time with my friends and family became nearly impossible. Work became my entire life and it has taken months to deconstruct that.
As for the Jellyfish Warehouse- there will not be any drastic change. The company has essentially been operating this way since the completion of my backyard jellyfish lab in January. We will have less inventory than in the past, but I will continue to add jellyfish to the website as they are available.
I cannot give enough thanks to everyone that has supported me and the business over the last several years. I was able to work with so many remarkable jellyfish species and develop friends and connections with other jelly keepers from all around the world. I look forward to expanding upon that in new ways.
I believe that the jellyfish hobby is in dire need of information. We don’t need more flashy, crowdfunded aquariums. We need hobbyists breeding jellyfish in their garages and tinkering with aquarium designs. I no longer feel the need to keep trade secrets and I hope to contribute to this greatly in the future, as a hobbyist myself.
