Celebrate Asian American Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander Month at your Walnut Creek library! Join us for a stunning performance of traditional Japanese drumming by Diablo Taiko (FB: Diablo Taiko IG: ) on Monday, May 11 at 6:30 pm!

Diablo Taiko is a community music ensemble based at the Diablo Japanese American Religious & Cultural Center in Concord. Their mission is to honor those from the past by carrying forth cultural traditions for future generations.

Free, no registration, all ages & abilities welcome. For special accommodation, please contact Library with 7 days' notice. Generously sponsored by the Walnut Creek Library Foundation.

THROWBACK -
We get a lot of requests for March and April for international and multicultural fairs. March 2023 we performed at Parkmead Elementary as the finale to their International Fair. Reach out if you are interested in performances at your school!

Spring has arrived! Diablo Taiko performed at Center for Community Arts’ Family Art Day on March 15th in Walnut Creek. We were happy to be asked back after performing last March. The event utilized the whole center inside and out. We enjoyed the nice stage and lighting and all of the families and children who came on stage to play. We hope to return next year!

Diablo Taiko went as a group to watch Kodo One Earth Tour 2025: Warabe in Berkeley. We love these group outings and especially the food afterwards. We were mesmerized by the enthusiasm and energy, power and artistry of the performers. Leaving the theater, we felt inspired and motivated to be more creative with our songs and performances. Thank you so much Kodo!

We were honored to be asked to play at Mayor Cameron Sasai’s inauguration as Mayor of Pinole. Mayor Sasai’s heritage is part Japanese American and he wanted to share his culture and love for music and the arts as part of his ceremony. We played from our hearts!

Thankful for the opportunity to perform at the Lafayette Library for their Lunar New Year event last month. We performed to an engaged audience who clapped, yelled, and danced along and even applauded for an encore after our one hour performance. If you missed us, we are featured in the recent issue of Lamorinda Weekly so grab one while you can!

We had our first Spirit Jam of 2025 (Year of the Snake themed) with 20 attendees. Some attendees were inspired to try taiko and learn more about it after seeing Kodo perform locally.

We had the opportunity to perform inside an IMAX theater at The Veranda in Concord for their Lunar New Year celebration. The rain couldn’t stop us from performing and we loved the movie theater seating.
