The moment vs the shot.

A photo pit can be chaotic. Lots of moving bodies, crowd surfers, and security all fighting for space. Fog billows in and lights are firing off.

Despite the chaos, there’s nowhere in the world I’d rather be. I get to have the best seat in the house for bands that shaped me. I get to document a moment in time and preserve it for the generations that will look back at what was happening right now.

That’s pretty magical. How lucky are we?

Orange is a difficult color to ignore.

It’s the glow of stage lights cutting through darkness. The last moments of sunset before the sky gives up. Warning signs. Fire. Rust. Energy.

Looking back through the archive, I realized how often I’m drawn to it. Maybe because it demands attention. Maybe because it feels alive.

Blue is another color I love photographing concerts with. I feel like it makes the moment bigger, especially if the artist is wearing lighter colored clothes - they really pop out against the light in a fun way.
