Final post for the day! Here are some more paintings I’ve done over the years…
The first paintings I’ve ever created are the seven pieces I have hanging in my apartment gallery wall. I had no idea that completing those paintings would motivate me to take on larger, more detailed projects. For my brother’s birthday, I made him a three-piece set of grayscale paintings. He said it’s the best gift he’s ever gotten (which says a lot because he refuses to admit I’m good at anything). Giving personalized gifts like these is my favorite part of being an artist.
If you are interested in me or my work, please reach out! I would love to connect with fellow members of the Art Community.
It has been a pleasure taking over the gallery’s Instagram today, Happy Holidays Everyone!
Coming at you with another takeover post!
Although I’ve always loved creating, painting is something I’ve taken up in the past couple of years, so I am very new to the art world. For that reason, I’m delighted to be part of the gallery’s Small Works exhibit. Being surrounded by individuals with a shared appreciation for art is so uplifting. With only a few shopping days left, be sure to check out the exhibit to support local artists, and take a peek at my paintings hanging on the front wall of the gallery!
My favorite of the three paintings I have displayed is the red cardinal. Titled “When a Cardinal Appears, an Angel is Near..”, this painting is dedicated to my grandmother, who was a phenomenal artist and loved red cardinals. She is the person who showed me how to explore my creative side, and I think of her every time I see this “Bird of Remembrance”.
The left-most painting I have displayed depicts The Book Loft in German Village, one of the most recognizable landmarks in Columbus. The Book Loft is one of the first places I visited after moving to Columbus a couple of years ago. My love for reading and the building’s romantic architecture has made me a regular visitor ever since!
The final painting I have displayed is titled “Palm Tree Paradise” and portrays the Wai’oli Hui’ia Church in Hanalei, Hawaii. I visited this church on my trip to Kauai upon graduating college. The church is iconically known as the prettiest building in Hanalei and absolutely took my breath away.
Keep your eyes peeled for one final post later today. Follow my account and send me a message if you’re interested in my work!

Hello fellow artsy humans! My name is Gina Grimaldi, and I’ll be taking over ROY’s Instagram for the day. I’m a Civil Engineer working for a construction company and a passionate painter in my spare time.
I’ve always been interested in architecture, which inspired me to study civil engineering. Being from the NYC metropolitan area, surrounded with unique urban architecture and iconic landmarks, I draw inspiration from building design for much of my work! Swipe to see some of my favorite scenes from places I’ve lived and traveled 👀

Play is the practice of art without a predetermined ending. My work in the studio relies on the ability to experiment without expectations of the end result.
Conceptually my work is centered around how trauma effects the perception of identity and engulfs the mind. The juxtaposition of natural and synthetic material acts as the mind being taken over by the demands that haunt us.

here one more time with some detail shots!
The little moments often end up being my favorites! Despite the colors remaining mostly flat, each section of the painting often has 3-5 layers of paint built up on the surface. This layering process is partly practical, as I gradually refine forms and colors, but it’s also connected to the layers of time each painting represents. This includes not only the time spent making it, but also reflects the way that objects and s**ces contain a multitude of moments all meshed together into one place.
These paintings will still be on view in the gallery until Friday so take a look in person and see if you can spot each of these little details!
Hi there! here!
Today I’m going to be sharing the paintings that are currently on view at the gallery and show a few behind the scenes moments from my studio practice. So here we go!
Within my work, I use interior s**ces to think through my own lived experiences. Through the careful arrangement of objects, colors, and patterns, I explore internalized feelings, expectations, and memories. This body of work as a whole deals with topics related to femininity, domesticity, and identity, as well as growth and acceptance over time. Despite being (nearly) void of the figure, each painting functions as a self-portrait of sorts, documenting aspects of both an internal and external life at different moments in time.
Todays the day!

Finally I attach all of the images together. I use quilting as a framework to organize and try to make sense of the saturation of content. Instead of fabric, plastic is used to highlight the present day materials that occupy our day-to-day landscape.
Quilting has long been used as a way to document what is happening and important to communities. Traditional American quilts use patchwork symbolism as a way to communicate messages. Protest quilts, such as the AIDS memorial quilt, are used to bring attention to specific issues. I consider this series of work as a continuation of these traditions to reflect the conflation of politics and consumerism that is ever present in our lives.
I’m currently continuing this series and developing further research into quilting and archives. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to continue the conversation

After scraping the fiber away, the image is revealed as transparent on the plastic. I was able to pull a part and scrape both the back and the front of the paper. When they are layered back together you see both sides simultaneously. I consider these “ghost images”.
These ghost images happen by chance. They are serendipitous juxtapositions that communicate more then a single image. Together they reveal the pulse of the moment and mimic the saturation of information that we are constantly surrounded by. When you try to focus on one thing, there is always something else lingering in the back fighting for attention. As a whole, there are through lines of violence, consumption and political polarization that is a reflection of the time.
ROY is closed Thursday & Friday.
Stop by Saturday to see what's on view including work by Nina Wells, in our Stacked exhibition.
Nina Wells, who often goes by “9” is a visual artist and curator based here in Columbus.

After organizing all of the images and graphics I didn’t know what to do with all the material I collected. It all felt so precious. So much so, that I was nervous about messing it up. After spending months of reading, organizing and scanning all of the images I felt that the newspaper inherited a heavy history full of emotional weight.
So I set the newspapers aside for a few months and brought them back out to play. I tend to overthink my work so I push myself to experiment and play with materials. Finally, I figured it out!
First step, laminate all of the images. Laminating makes them stiff so that I can cut them up. They won’t tear and I can start to think more clearly about ways to attach them together.

I want to spend this week focusing on the body of work that is being shown at ROY. I’ve worked on this series for a number of years and this is the first time it’s being exhibited. It feels like a good time to focus and reflect on what it all means.
Do you ever get so overwhelmed that you don’t know what to do, where to start, who to listen to and what is real? I had this overwhelming feeling at the end of 2016. I couldn’t make sense of what was happening politically and the impact it would have on millions of people lives.
I decided to use that feeling to slow down and work with something tangible - newspaper. I read the top three newspapers every day for the first 100 days of trumps presidency. It helped me feel knowledgeable (even though things were changing so fast that I wasn’t keeping up) and connected to something physical. Everything happening wasn’t floating around on my phone and popping up every few minutes with another point of speculation and spectacle. I could stop and spend time - the moment wasn’t fleeting and I stopped scrolling to take it all in.
I started to cut up the newspapers and organize them to further understand what was happening. I didn’t know what I was going to do with them but it felt right so I continued to observe and search.
This week Heather Mawson will be taking over our Instagram! Here you can get an insight of her mindset- on how she creates her work and the process behind the ones currently on display.
Stop by ROY to check out her art!

@krista.faist here again posting as @roygbivgallery. As I mentioned, @hoodie__guthrie and I are working on an audio visual project for @thefusefactory’s Frequency Festival. It will be held May 20-21 @caccolumbus. You can catch our work at 7 PM on the 20th.
To honor Women’s History Month, we’re highlighting female artists who’s work is relevant to the art on display at Roy G Biv. Mona Hatoum’s Corps Estranger (1994) is a video piece that the artist took with a camera entering her own body. In this clip, she records the inside of her mouth. The result is strangely vulnerable, yet overwhelming. Her body becomes unfamiliar and largely unrecognizable. What similarities might Hatoum’s work have to @weitingwei’s delicately sculpted, bodily forms? Or @juliamatejcek and @lydiacornett’s provocative examination of animals, bodies, and labor? Or @krista.faist’s colorful virtual environments of simulacra and overstimulation?

Greetings my name is Darsy and I’m taking over Roy’s Instagram. I would like to invite you to PACKED EXHIBITION FROM OCTOBER 8 - NOVEMBER 6, 2021. CHECK OUT MY CREATION! This is an expression of my prosees, how I got to transform all the bad for the good. My piece is title “PANDORA’S BOX” Pandora’s Box story is about how she opened a box left in her care. When Pandora opened the box sickness, death and many other unspecified evils were released into the world. From this story has grown the idiom "to open a Pandora's box", meaning to do or start something that will cause many unforeseen problems. Pandora managed to keep one spirit in the box as she shut the lid, named “HOPE." The goal of this box is to resemble aspects of energetic levels, bad and good . The box from the outside takes a dark form with negative messages, from the inside the box takes a positive approach containing inspirational affirmations for self-care, self-love and self-acceptance. Visitors can take affiliations with them and remind them TO TRANSFORM LIFE WITH HOPE.! Many of the boxes are interactive, look for “touch or view” on the labels & many are for sale. I encourage everyone to visit this amazing exhibition and support local artist!! @columbuscollects @roygbivgallery @artmakescbus @ohioartscouncil @Franklintonartdistrict . . . . #ohioartsstrong #liveforwardcbus #artmakescbus #gcacgrants #ohiofindithere
Hi, I’m Darsy @darsym taking over Roy’s instagram!! It has been a true honor sharing my journey of emotional healing. During this process I discovered my own ability to find and maintain balance in body, mind and spirit trough meditation. Now I understand the importance of holistic healing for mental health and well-being. I feel is my duty to share my experiences to help out others that are struggling. I have created a page about the healing art with color and a podcast. I encourage everyone to follow me @color_your_life_chakras visit link in bio and listen to “Color Your Life” podcast. The series celebrates the seven Chakras or energy centers of the body, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head. The seven chakras are associated with vibrations, moods, colors and frequencies used in yoga and meditation practices. Each segment includes a short guided meditation, visualizing each chakra color and using positive affirmations. This is an effective way to learn methods to release stress and promote health. You can find it on Spotify, Anchor and many podcast platforms. “Life is a great big canvas; throw all the colors you can at it”

@batresgilvin IG Takeover 👋🏽 Thank you for joining us this week! We will leave you with one of our most celebratory pieces 🪅🐄 “Cow Party”, is a celebration of the everyday. As part of our practice we embrace and highlight everyday events such as feeding the cows on our farm. We do this through the utilization and decoration of recycled materials such as cardboard, styrofoam or other everyday objects we collect. We enjoy taking what could be seen as garbage or a negative experience and creating something bright, sparkly and fun out of it. 🪅🐄 Don’t forget to check out Similar Familiar @roygbivgallery featuring wonderful work by wonderful artists @britny_wainwright & @greghatchart Have a great weekend! ✨ _____________ @columbuscollects @artmakescbus @ohioartscouncil @riverandrich @Franklintonartdistrict #toaweandawaken #ohioartsstrong #liveforwardcbus #artmakescbus #gcacgrants #ohiofindithere #cincinnati #nky #art #batresgilvin #cows #piñata #everyday #celebration
