Tulip study by Lindy Soffer
One tulip photographed every day for a month.
A 30-day study examined the effects of organic decay on image formation using cyanotype contact printing. A single cut tulip (Tulipa sp.) was printed daily onto hand-coated Khadi paper using ferric ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide. Each print was exposed under ultraviolet (UV) light for 22 minutes beneath glass. Results demonstrate a continuous shift from high-contrast representation to midtone-dominant fragmentation, corresponding to the progressive structural decay of the specimen. Findings suggest that repeated photographic exposure records and contributes to material transformation.
