The Department of Dance at the Ohio State University is a community of diverse individuals trained on a common nexus of inquiry, the rich and complex phenomenon of dance. At the heart of the Ohio State Dance experience is the notion of embodied scholarship, embracing the intertwining areas of physical practice, creative activity and theoretical inquiry. We invest our time, energy, expertise and resources in studies of performance and composition, history, production, Laban studies, dance and technology, dance documentation, theory and analysis; and we extend ourselves into collaborations with other disciplines, from music and theatre to women's studies and creative writing, as well as into the larger communities around us. We view and continually seek to renew our place as an active forefront in the field, nurturing links to the professional world and fostering those connections for ourselves and our students. We are writers of books and makers of dances; passionate learners and dedicated teachers; we are performers and leaders; advocates and innovators; nurturers and creators and investigators. Repertory Performance Dates: April 16-17 2026 on the Theatre, Film, and Media Arts Main Stage
This audition also includes casting for School Tour with Eddie Taketa

Thank you for signing up for the Spring 2027 Auditions. Please read the following carefully and reach out if you have any questions.

Please bring tap shoes.

Come to 320 Barnett Theatre on October 14 between 10 and 10:15am for numbers, a quick picture, and sign-in!

10-10:30 will be a self-guided warm-up! Please use this time wisely as we will be jumping right in at 10:30!

Note: As movement practice courses are 7 weeks, they will not be meeting Oct 14, so this audition will not interfere.

Spring Concert 2027
The concert will be held on the proscenium stage in the TFMA building!
It will consist of four works from the following:
Visiting artist YNOT which was set in September
Suzan Bradford-Kounta
Visiting artist Juel D. Lane which will be cast in March
Gerson Lanza Ruiz
You must be available for all tech/dress rehearsals and performances (listed below).

School Tour Spring 2027
Engage with local schools in a variety of styles directed and choreographed by Professor Eddie Taketa!
Double Casting Note:
"Rep" refers to the daytime repertory class with Professors Lanza Ruiz and Bradford-Kounta.
"School Tour" refers to Professor Taketa's cast
If you are already cast in YNOT's piece: You are able to audition for Rep and School Tour (and Juel D. Lane in March).
If you are cast in Rep or School tour: You are able to audition for Juel D. Lane in March
We will not be double casting between Rep and School Tour.
Being double cast is an opportunity, not a promise, and we will consider our strongest, most committed dancers for double roles.

Notes from Choreographers:
Gerson Lanza Ruiz: I am looking to explore partner dancing in tap dance, as well as other percussive forms of expression. (Please bring tap shoes).
Suzan Bradford-Kounta: I am looking for students to embody the essence of dance music and culture within the African Diaspora. Bring a willingness to study, research and apply all wrapped in a lapa and ready to work.
