From the stage to the page. 📖🩰✨

After a showing of Fabrications at City Center, Professor Daniel Roberts celebrated a signing of "The Artistry of Merce Cunningham: Choreography, Technique, Creativity", co-authored with faculty emerita Karen Eliot, at the Merce Cunningham Trust.

A fantastic gathering of former MCDC members, dance students, and Merce fans made the evening one to remember. Here's to preserving and sharing the legacy of a true innovator in dance.

Today, Department of Dance Chair Crystal Perkins officially welcomed students, faculty, lecturers, and staff to the 2026-2027 academic year at convocation. The excitement was high, the energy was contagious, and the pizza was definitely a hit. 🍕💃

MADE at Ohio State is a student-centered, student-driven, and student-led interdisciplinary arts festival that celebrates bold experimentation, collaborative invention, and community connection. It is designed to catalyze creativity across Ohio State, supporting original student work in all forms—performance, installation, digital media, writing, curation, and beyond.

Through a flexible and inclusive platform of curated and fringe events, the festival invites undergraduate and graduate students to harness the power of the arts to spark dialogue, challenge norms, and envision new futures. MADE at Ohio encourages risk-taking and boundary-pushing work while minimizing bureaucratic constraints. Faculty and staff serve as mentors—not gatekeepers—supporting student leadership, artistic autonomy, and collaborative experimentation.

The first MADE at Ohio State Festival will be held during the spring of 2027.

Southern Oracles: A Celebration of the South Side

Several of Columbus’ most celebrated artists will take the stage together for one night only to honor the South Side. Southern Oracles: A Celebration of the South Side takes place Tuesday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m. at Weigel Hall on the Ohio State University campus. Admission is free.

The performance is presented by the Johnstone Fund for New Music in partnership with Streetlight Guild and the Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts at Ohio State.

Conceived and produced by Columbus writer Scott Woods, Southern Oracles brings together music, poetry, and dance into an evening built around a shared sense of place. The event is designed to immerse the audience in the South Side, with pieces that reference the neighborhood’s institutions, history, and culture.

“The South Side holds Columbus to account,” said Woods. “It is rich and poor. It is historical and in constant cultural flux. It has every reward and challenge that the city faces. As Columbus barrels toward a million residents, the South Side is experiencing great change. This concert ensures that important pieces of the
South Side that matter to the people who built it have a place to land in the history books.”

TWO WEEKS!

Southern Oracles: A Celebration of the South Side is a one-night concert bringing together an unprecedented gathering of Columbus artists to celebrate Columbus’ South Side.

Featuring pieces across styles and disciplines, the night features music, poetry, dance and more in a show that places the audience in space with key Columbus neighborhood institutions.

Conceived and produced by writer Scott Woods and created with generous support from the Johnstone Fund for New Music, Streetlight Guild, and the Office of the Vice Provost for the Arts at Ohio State, Southern Oracles continues in a line of amazing offerings that generate and highlight outstanding Columbus history and culture.
