Elder's Meditation of the Day—May 31

"Sell a country? Why not sell the air, the great sea, as well as the earth? Did not the Great Spirit make them all for the use of his children?"

—Tecumseh, SHAWNEE

The white man's way is to possess, control, and divide. It has always been difficult for Native People to understand this approach to life. There are certain things we cannot own that must be shared. The land is one of these things. We need to relook at what we are doing to Mother Earth. We are digging in Her veins and foolishly diminishing the natural resources. We are not living in balance with the world around us. We do not own Mother Earth. She is our source of life. Today, we need to really ponder on the true relationship between Mother Earth and ourselves.

Great Spirit, today let us respect Mother Earth. Let us honor the fact that She is us, and we are Her.

Elder's Meditation of the Day—May 24

"In Tunkasila, there is no time. Everything moves in the blink of an eye. It's as fast as thought, so there is no speed there. There is no time in between."

—Wallace Black Elk, LAKOTA

There is a relationship between thought and reality. Every thought is alive, and as soon as you think it, a result occurs immediately. This occurs because the laws of the Great Spirit act immediately. When you tell a lie, you immediately experience fear. When you tell the truth, you immediately experience freedom. To the Creator, there is no time. Sometimes, to make something happen it may take a series of thoughts and actions before you can actually see it with your eyes. For us to experience the meaning of life requires us to connect with ourselves deep within, there where the source of our being exists, there where the Divine exists.

Great Spirit, today help me find balance with my mind, body, and spirit.

Land Back NAICCO—Spring 2026 Update

As we step into May 2026, we want to take time to thank everyone who has lifted up Land Back NAICCO over the years. To date, this grassroots effort has brought in an astonishing $479,341! Because of all the love and support that has been directed towards this humble but significant campaign, we are in a unique position to invest not only in land, but as well in community, culture, and the restoration of Mother Nature.

In that same light, we are pleased to report that exciting new developments have started to take shape around Land Back NAICCO. That is, distinct opportunities related to this campaign are now being explored in full through fruitful discussions with private and nonprofit parties. Going forward, we will be investing a great deal of time and energy developing sound plans and strategies for next constructive measures to be taken with these parties.

Stay tuned for future Land Back NAICCO updates throughout 2026.

Respectfully,

NAICCO Building Exterior Makeover – Phase 2 Complete

Hats off to the team from International Union of Painters & Allied Trades DC6 for completing Phase 2 of the NAICCO building’s exterior makeover. The elaborate detailing and second coat of paint have made the place look just that much nicer. A great deal of respect and admiration goes out to IUPAT-DC6 for choosing NAICCO as a local nonprofit organization to extend such love and support.

Sincerely,

NAICCO Cuisine Official Announcement

After long and careful consideration, we here at NAICCO have decided to officially retire NAICCO Cuisine. Undoubtedly, we’ve had some amazing, unforgettable times out on the food truck scene with and through NAICCO Cuisine. However, we now need to shift our attention and efforts to other priorities at NAICCO. That is, recent grant funding has provided us the unique opportunity to fully launch NAICCO Outdoors, a project significantly focused on helping Native People deepen their relationship with Mother Nature. This project is one that we have been dreaming of initiating for years, so it goes without saying that we are thrilled to be able to deliver such meaningful programming—which we wholeheartedly believe will be nothing short of beneficial to those who personify our mission and vision work at NAICCO. That being said, the majority of our time and energy in the coming years will be devoted to making sure that NAICCO Outdoors is implemented with integrity and on behalf of the greater good.

We are deeply appreciative and humbled by the love and support that has been extended to NAICCO Cuisine and the bigger picture of what the operation has stood for and signified over the years. In our wildest dreams, we could not have ever imagined such an awesome experience. A huge THANK YOU goes out to each and every person out there who helped NAICCO Cuisine get off to a phenomenal start, achieve an array of what felt like unending successes, and more so, for helping our Native People realize that such a win for everyone involved was possible—both Native and non-Native alike.

Though this chapter has come to a close, there’s a high likeliness that NAICCO will offer opportunities in the future for the public to again enjoy some exquisite Native American cuisine. Meaning, NAICCO fundraising events will be explored at a later time, and if/when decided upon, will be publicly announced via NAICCO’s social media platforms.

You can reflect on NAICCO Cuisine and the incredible journey this unique Native American street food trailer traveled over the years after its unveiling amid the pandemic by visiting: https://www.naicco.com/naicco-cuisine

On a very similar note, the NAICCO Cuisine food trailer has been posted for sale on UsedVending.com—see link below. The monies gained from this sale will be used to further enhance and help sustain the NAICCO Outdoors project. If you’d like to help us, make this sale, please feel free to share this information with any and all interested parties.

Sincerely,
Team NAICCO
