In the hopes that this strange and trying pandemic interlude will continue to subside, until it's only a melancholy memory. . . StageSouth Theatre Company is emerging from our hiatus, aiming to stage our next production this coming September. Our venue is chosen, and an announcement about the specific play and opportunities to participate in that production will be posted soon. Meanwhile, we’re eager to know who among the local community is interested and available to become involved in some capacity with our endeavors or to provide material support for our projects. Also, we currently have several vacancies on our Executive Board, so if anyone has an interest in helping navigate this organization into a successful future, please let our current president, John Land, know. StageSouth is incorporated as a non-profit organization with the State of Georgia and is dedicated to providing entertaining & challenging theater by and for the greater Columbus/Phenix City community. All aspects of our productions will be conducted employing the COVID-19 safety measures recommended at the time. Thanks to all of you for your continued support!

Following a hiatus, StageSouth Theatre Company – a non-profit organization based here in Columbus – is resuming activities. We plan to build on the success of our debut production, Horton Foote’s “1918,” by cultivating a 2019-20 season that we anticipate will be supplemented with additional programs. We look forward to working with local performers, designers, technicians, and other volunteers to broaden Columbus’ theater scene, and we welcome opportunities to collaborate with our sister local institutions. Our Mission Statement: “StageSouth Theatre Company is a nonprofit community group committed to producing a range of high quality live theater for a diverse audience. We seek to involve artists with all levels of experience, regardless of background, and to cultivate audiences with a greater appreciation for the arts and with a deeper understanding of themselves and the world around them. StageSouth does not discriminate on the basis of age, s*x, race or ethnicity, creed or religious affiliation, disability, socio-economic status, or s*xual or gender orientation.” Let us know how you'd like to participate or support our endeavor, and MANY THANKS to everyone who has encouraged us to continue.

Words of praise and encouragement from a contributor to the Ledger-Enquirer . . . we thank the community at large, and particularly the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Columbus, for sharing the resources necessary to carry out projects such as our recent staging of "1918."

There's a new theater company in Columbus, Ga. It isn't a historic state treasure like the Springer, or a big, new facility like the RiverCenter. In fact, the building in which it produces its plays is only a temporary home. But StageSouth doesn't exist to catch your eye -- it's here to "make people…

Our final two performances of Horton Foote's "1918" are Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. (www.stagesouththeatre.org for details.) Our director, John Land, has a personal connection to the playwright, whom he met. That's how he got this autographed flyer from another production. (John points out that the ballpoint pen they had didn't write very well on the slick paper.) Foote was one of the great American playwrights and screenwriters of the 20th century, but "1918" has not been produced often. This is a unique opportunity.
