Our 3 year anniversary open mic! Kismet that it lined up with the reopening of Two Dollar Radio Headquarters . Grateful for everyone who came out to support. The poets on the open mic delivered the heat, and Mathias gave us a no hitter of a feature. Thank you all for the support and warmth. See you in November!

Hey everyone! A reminder that our October Open Mic has been rescheduled to this coming Friday, 10/9 and we'll be part of Two Dollar Radio Headquarters big reopening party. With our 3 year anniversary and HQ's reopening coinciding, I knew I wanted to choose a feature that celebrated the history of HQ and the choice was obvious: Mathias.

Mathias was one of the first poets I met in Columbus, as part of the team that hosted the Seventh Draft Poetry Slam at HQ when I started working there years ago. His camera work has rightly been getting him a lot of recognition, but this coming Friday we're all gonna be reminded that he was a poet first.

The show will be stellar. First 10 poets to sign up for the open mic will get one poem on stage. As always the open mic is free, but we are suggesting a donation price of $5-$10 for our feature artist. See you Friday!

Since the fine folks at Two Dollar Radio Headquarters are still closed to spruce up the joint, we are rescheduling our October Open Mic. Normally we would be poeming tonight, but instead we'll be joining them for their big reopening party on Friday the 9th! Hello my friends, here's a picture of my face for the algorithm.

Idk about you but lately I have been writing absolutely insane poems about the saddest Russian words and having the best time.

Open mic is back tonight at 7pm. Anyone and everyone is welcome, if you're one of the first 10 to sign up you get 5 minutes on stage.

Tonight we'll close out the open mic with one more round of applause for Tomás Pacheco, an idea I'm borrowing from Travis McClerking When he would grace any stage in town the applause was not just polite or perfunctory but an acknowledgement of this brilliant young guy, operating on a level that had everybody straightening up on their seats and realizing that it was time to get more serious about their own craft.

The memory of Tomás and the presence of him still wows me - so why stop the applause?

Still glowing from our Arts Fest performance!

In the last few months we quietly closed shop on our monthly workshop. For the last few years a bunch of us would get together once a month to share our poems and give/receive feedback. I got a chance to watch so many writers grow and grow alongside them. I can't do the pleasure of the experience justice in an IG post BUT I will say it did feel like a very fitting cap end to that experience to share a stage with these 5. What a singular honor to watch the way they've all grown into their own as artists, and to cheer them on. Glad I got to share some poems on their stage, a craft that has been honed by their feedback and care.

So thanks to Greater Columbus Arts Council for giving these great artists a stage a chance to celebrate!

The Arts Fest is right around the corner which means so is another hour of killer poems from Village Poetry!

We've got the Cultural Arts Center Stage from noon to 1 next Sunday! I'm delighted to be sharing a stage with these poets who I have been able to grow alongside over the years. See you next Sunday! 💖💖💖

Village Poetry regular and poetic luminary Aerin Higginbotham will be putting on her emcee boots this Thursday and will be shepherding us all through a night of poetic community.

And even more good news, it's Pride Month! We love and appreciate our q***r community all year long, but hope to see the gayest poems you got in celebration 🎊🎉🎊
