We got a surprise inspection visit from USDA last week and passed with a 100% full compliance!!! They don’t tell you when they’re coming so you have to be vigilant about keeping things at a high standard such as shelters, clean water, feed can’t be stored on the ground and has to be varmint proof just to name a few, it’s easy for us because we want our animals to have the best life possible but what really got the inspectors attention was how we water our animals. We don’t use water bowls on our outdoor exhibits because of the heat it just gets nasty, stagnant and too warm to enjoy a nice cool drink so we use drip systems, shower heads and pvc to have a constant flow of fresh water throughout the day. Water is always coming in and always going out so no matter when the animals want a drink it’s fresh from the tap.
The last thing the inspector said was “ keep doing what you’re doing”, and that was all we needed to hear.
