Early Music in Columbus A professional concert series devoted to music written before 1800, performed on period instruments. The Friends of Early Music, Inc.

Early Music in Columbus is a series dedicated to the music of the Medieval, Renaissance, Baroque and early Classical periods. Our series brings some of the finest early music specialists, performing on period instruments, from around the world to Columbus to present powerful and moving concerts. Through re-creating the sound the composers heard when writing their musical works, we bring the past t

Meet baroque flutist and teacher Dr. Amy Guitry! As an orchestral player, she has performed in the UK, Holland, Poland, and across the US with Mercury, ProMusica, and Apollo's Fire. Amy also enjoys introducing modern flute players to historical flutes, both locally and as a teacher at the Wildacres Flute Retreat in North Carolina.

Have you heard Mozart on historical instruments? People who have agree that not only do they change the sound, but also transform the entire character of the music.

The fortepiano (the predecessor of the modern piano) has a lighter and more transparent tone. Unlike the piano, this instrument decays quickly, but offers delicate contrasts and a wide range of articulation, making the music more radiant and conversational.

One of the foremost pianists working in Columbus, Dr. Suzanne Newcomb will make her chamber debut with EMiC next week.

On top of her busy teaching schedule, Suzanne can be seen performing with a variety of groups, such as the Columbus, Westerville, and New Albany Symphonies, ProMusica, and Worthington Chamber Orchestra.

If we had to describe with one word the music salons at the court of Frederick the Great, that would be "legendary".

Every evening the King, himself an accomplished flutist, played with famous musicians at his palace. Among them was Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach (son of Johann Sebastian), whose experimental and daring style sounded nothing like his father's.
