Block by Block CBUS

Block by Block CBUS Telling the story of Columbus one block at a time from a variety of points of view. Who can apply? Participants DO NOT need to be professional photographers.

Block by Block is a one-week pop-up photo project that will take participant photographers from ideation to exhibition in seven days as they capture the story of Columbus one block at a time from several unique perspectives. Funded by the Greater Columbus Arts Council’s BIG IDEA GRANT, in collaboration with Wild Goose Creative and Midwest Photo Exchange, the project will focus on a single block in

Franklinton, home to Wild Goose Creative. The ideal applicant is a photographer with limited experience in printing and exhibiting work, is comfortable capturing images in a public setting, has a camera, and is proficient at editing pictures to match their unique style. Photographers who have participated in juried/group shows, are looking for ways to build and exhibit individual projects, and can meet the mandatory attendance criteria listed above are also welcome to apply. Participant Benefits

- Free to participate
- $150 stipend for transportation, time & related expenses
- Cost of prints, matting/framing and other materials for the show will be covered at 100%.
- Each participant photographer will receive 3 11x14 prints of their choses images, 16x20 frames and
matting, and supplies related to framing and hanging their prints for the show.
- Photographers will receive expert support in creating and curating photo projects, digital printing,
and framing and exhibiting their work. Program Dates
1. Kick-off Meeting & Photowalk
Saturday June 2, 12pm at Wild Goose Creative (188 McDowell Street, Columbus OH)
The group leaders will introduce the project, group introductions, goal setting, and walking tour/Photowalk of Franklinton with area historian.

2. Curation and Printing
Wednesday June 7, 3pm at Midwest Photo Exchange (2887 Silver Drive Columbus, Ohio 43211)
Meet at the Learning Studio at Midwest Photo Exchange to share, curate, and print images for the show.

3. Matting/Framing, and Hanging the Show
Thursday June 8, 7pm at Wild Goose Creative (188 McDowell Street, Columbus OH)
Meet at Wild Goose Creative to learn essential matting, framing, and exhibiting tips and tricks by Wild Goose staff.

4. One-Night pop-up show at Wild Goose Creative
Friday June 9, 5:30pm at Wild Goose Creative (188 McDowell Street, Columbus OH)
One-night pop-up show during Franklinton Friday. Attendees must be in admittance to receive their stipend.

Community Arts Incubator is an innovative 9-month mentorship program designed to bridge the gap between creative vision and practical ex*****on. Mentees are paired 1-on-1 with a local artist to engage in monthly workshops and a variety of community events to hone their artistic skills and career. Block by Block - Communities is up and ready for tonight’s opening at Wild Goose Creative for

Thank you to all the photographers who joined the photowalks or shared their
work, the staff and volunteers at Wild Goose Creative, Elle Northwood and
Craig Murdick for assisting with curation and installation, and the many partners
who welcomed us into, and helped us have a better understanding of, their
communities.
Additional thanks to Mayor Ginther, Columbus City Council members, and
Franklin County Commissioners for their ongoing support of the arts in
Columbus, and to the Greater Columbus Arts Council for the grant that made
this project possible.

There are only 9 days left to be part of the Block By Block Community Photo Exhibition at Wild Goose Creative!

Here’s how it works:

Explore one (or more) of the featured blocks in Columbus pictured here (all pictures MUST have been created on or after 2/1/2025).

Share your images on Instagram with the block’s hashtag.

Up to 20 photographers will be selected for the exhibition.

Selected artists will receive:
• Professional printing, framing, and installation of their work
• A $50 stipend for attending a 2 hour workshop on printing, framing and installing their work
• 100% of the proceeds if their piece sells

Key Dates:

Submission deadline: September 5, 2025

Notifications: September 10

Final image files (11x14 at 300dpi) due: September 20

Exhibition install: October 9

Opening reception: October 10
