My art professor, Hemant Dwivedi Hemant Dwivedi once told me something that still echoes in my mind.

He said,
“The first sketch you make — that’s the original one. That’s the moment your thought takes its first breath.
Everything after that… you’re just copying the original spark.”

And it made me pause.
Because he was right.

I couldn’t resist starting this stunning piece on a 5‑foot by 5‑foot canvas.

🌺🌺🌺🌺 But the original sketch will always remain the original. 🌺🌺🌺🌺

I trust my creative mind to decide how much justice the final piece will give to this beautiful sketch. ❤️❤️❤️

After completing this canvas, I feel so complete. It holds everything I love and adore—nature, drawing, colors, folk art, embroidery, and birds.

All the pieces of my heart found their way into one circle, and it feels like it carries my spirit, my soul.

Should I do more work on the face or leave it like that?

This canvas scroll—rich with acrylics and delicate embroidery—comes from my series "Intertwined with Nature," where a human figure nurtures and becomes one with a growing tree. Influenced by Indian folk-art traditions and Indigenous understandings of our bond with the land, the piece reflects a simple truth: human life and nature sustain one another.

It was a pleasure to meet with a truly wonderful soul , at a recent monthly event hosted by the Central Ohio Branch of the National League of American Pen Women at Storyline Bookshop. Heather graciously shared her experiences as an author and even signed a copy of her poetry book for us. We learned that she penned her first storybook during her sixth-grade year. Her presentation and life story were genuinely inspiring and motivating for all of us.

Before our meeting, we had a wonderful lunch at in Upper Arlington. It was a fun day, along with some beautiful pen women. Silvia Mier, Ann Alaia Woods
