My exhibition "To Know This Place" at 411 Gallery is just about finished (if you want to see it before it's gone, message me and I'll meet you over at the gallery between now and Sunday). It has been AMAZING - to see the work hung all together in my hometown gallery, to be able to personally share with people the work I've spent the last 7 years making, to do some fun gel plate printing with folks, to see so many people I haven't seen in such a long time, and to meet new friends. The conversations have been so important to me. There have been some beautiful moments and some wonderful, unexpected hugs. Thanks to everyone who came out to see the work, and to everyone at Columbus Area Arts Council for hosting me and my work - my heart is full!

I created and published a book that contains all the work in the exhibition, along with the stories behind them, and I still have some available for $30 each. Message me if you're interested.

And lastly, although it wasn't my primary focus when making the work, it makes my heart happy that many pieces are finding their way into new homes - and honored that the work spoke to people enough that they want to have it in their lives. (Pictured here are some pieces that are still available. Message me if you're interested and I'll give you the necessary details.)

Pricing Statement: The works in this exhibition are offered on a sliding scale. This is not a reduction in their value, but an invitation to shared responsibility. Each piece reflects sustained attention, skilled handwork, and time spent in relationship with a particular place. The pricing ranges acknowledge that people come to this work with different resources, while affirming that all levels honor the labor and care embedded in the work. Any price above the minimum supports both my ongoing artistic practice and the work of Sycamore Land Trust, who is engaged in the care and protection of land locally. Thank you for participating thoughtfully in the creation of handmade work and in the shared care of place.

As much as I love the new greens, I want to talk about the range of pinks, purples, and reds that are also the colors of earliest spring.

Now that I’ve stopped collecting shells, I’ve begun photographing them, paying attention to the textures, the patterns, the colors (which fade quickly when shells are collected anyway). I'm interested to see how they find their way into my artwork.

I'm no longer collecting shells. I'm collecting textures, patterns, and found compositions.

Thanks to everyone who came out to the reception tonight! It was so great to meet new friends, and to see so many people I hadn't seen in a while. You all made it a fabulous night.

If you couldn't make it tonight, and you still want to see the show, it is up until May 29. I'll be at the gallery Sat May 16 from noon to 3pm (with a fun make & take). The gallery has open hours Thursdays & Fridays 12 - 6pm. Otherwise, send me a message amd I can probably meet you over at the gallery another time.

To Know This Place by Michele Po***ck

🖼️On View April 16–May 29, 2026
🎉Reception: May 7 | 5:00–7:00 pm First Thursdays Downtown Columbus, IN

To Know This Place traces Michele's long relationship with the woods near her home in Brown County. After chronic illness limited her ability to go into the landscape, she began bringing the woods into her studio instead. This work is documentation, tribute, and touchstone: a cabinet of curiosities, a reimagined way of belonging, and a love song to the forest. 🌳

As I keep walking in the woods, and as I keep taking photograph after photograph of the plants I’ve come to know more intimately, grateful that they persist year after year, I’m also moving towards trying to capture a deeper and more extended relationship with these plants in my artwork.

As an artist, I'm always on the lookout for cool colors, patterns, textures, and what I like to call "found compositions." I'm in Florida on vacation right now, and I'm photographing things I'm finding as the tide goes out. Maybe these will inspire a fiber artwork - a beachcombing quilt of some kind, exploring color and texture, perhaps.

I've finished installing "To Know This Place" at 411 Gallery in Columbus, IN. It opens tomorrow! This is the culmination of 7 years of studio work, and it celebrates my relationship with the woods near my home. The show will be up from now until May 29th. (I'm excited because this is the first time these pieces will be for sale. Message me with questions about that.)

There will be a reception on Thurs May 7 from 5-7pm. The reception will be a part of the Arts Alley event, so there will be music, food and drink in the alley right outside the gallery.

I will also be in the gallery Friday May 1st from 3-6pm and
Saturday May 16th from 10am-2pm.

The gallery has open hours:
Thursday & Friday 12:00–6:00 pm
Saturdays 10:00 am–2:00 pm

And if you can't make it any of those times, reach out to me... I'm happy to meet you at the gallery at another time if we plan it in advance.
