Pass Me the Hot Sauce

This is ninth in a series of guitar images I am making using cardboard , cut and pieced together , painted, then glued to a wood backing for support. They are more or less actual guitar size (about 18x43 inches). I've used metal and wire for the strings to add texture and interest, and flashes of spark and color to create an energy surrounding the work.. if you look into the sound hole in the body of the guitar, you'll see a sticker pasted there of a couple of dancing chile peppers. That sticker came from the napkins of a local Mexican food restaurant and I thought it went perfectly with the theme of the piece, giving it a fun and playful feeling.

Cardboard guitar #6

The bold guitar immediately grabs attention, crisp against the black and white ground. It feels like a direct salute to music?s craft, using humble materials to mirror frets, tuners and pickups. The layering is tight and clean, with real string lines and small metal accents that give convincing depth. The tall format guides the eye from headstock to bridge, and the limited palette keeps the image strong and readable. The mix of smooth surfaces with corrugated and check textures adds a tactile beat that suits the subject and shows careful control of materials. Its visual clarity and composition creates a strong presence and a clear visual identity which tends to resonate with viewers.

Aztec jungle runner!

I lost my father a few years ago and when I was young he would take us to the jungles of the Yucat?n in Mexico so before all the Aztec ruins were cleared out for tourist .. he had a big impact in my life as he was an artist as well so naturally I did something that had his style with my bright and graphic movements I think I captured the essence of Chicano painting and kept everything historical correct! One of my favorite paintings even with sculpture out of painting

Valentine?s Day Card

Hi. My wife asked if I had any Valentine paintings, I said no. But I quickly came up with a new design. I followed my normal procedure where I generated a 'reference' image using Chat GPT and Playground AI. I sketched it onto watercolor paper and then painted it. It is 8 x 10 inches in size and prepared on Arches cold pressed paper using Grumbacher Academy paints and Utrecht permanent white gouache.
I hope you like it.

Untitled

Acrylic on cardboard. 20x23. I was trying to do a realistic landscape using cardboard collage, which is very restrictive in nature. I wanted it to look painterly, but still be obviously cardboard construction. This was done from a photo which had the angles and texture that I wanted to exploit into the construction. I was pleased with the result and may try exploring deeper into this form.

Riverwalk

Enamel and metal on cardboard collage with wood backing, 18x29 inch. I'm having fun constructing these cardboard collage pieces. This one was inspired by the downtown Scioto Mile in Columbus which is one of the city's best features. I tried to keep this piece fun and active with lots of eye movement and bright colors.

?Records?

This is a recent piece done in acrylic and metal on a cardboard collage mounted on a wood backing. It measures approximately 25x20.
I enjoy listening to and collecting vinyl records. One of my favorite things to do is to browse the local records stores and search through the stacks looking for great music. I tried to convey that feeling of joy into this piece by keeping it bright and fun and active. Each of my pieces start out with an idea that grows and evolves during construction. For example, the beer can in the corner was not planned, but I needed something to draw attention to that corner, and I saw the can sitting on the table, so I used it. I think it worked nicely and adds interest. That's the way my work usually goes. It's always a fun puzzle to be solved and I like the way this one turned out.

"Santa 2025"

This 14x14 gallery wrapped piece is painted with acrylics in my home studio. This portrait captures Santa Claus in a joyful moment, his rosy cheeks and twinkling blue eyes radiating warmth and holiday cheer. I used soft brushwork to create the fluffy texture of Santa?s beard and hat, while the glowing orange background and floating orbs evoke a magical, festive atmosphere. This piece has added a touch of Christmas spirit to our home this season.
