🚧 DAY # 19: Rain, Rain, GO AWAY! ☔🛝

Well, Mother Nature finally decided we needed a little break! 😂

With all the rain today, our installation crew did their best to tackle some cleanup and smaller tasks before calling it a day.

But we really can't complain! We've been EXTREMELY lucky with the weather, and the forecast for the next five days looks BEAUTIFUL for building a playground! ☀️🙌

🌱 LET'S TALK TURF!

Once our installation crew finishes up the main playground structure, our turf team can begin preparing the ground underneath for our new surface!

And there's a LOT more to it than just rolling out some artificial grass!

Here's how it works:

🪨 Step 1: FOUR inches of stone! This creates a solid foundation and helps with proper drainage so water doesn't collect underneath the playground.

☁️ Step 2: Foam padding! A special shock-absorbing foam layer goes over the stone to help cushion falls and provide a softer landing for our little adventurers.

🌱 Step 3: TURF! Finally, our beautiful new turf goes on top! Not only does it provide a clean, durable surface backed by a 25-YEAR WARRANTY, but it's also designed to be accessible for wheelchairs, walkers, and other mobility assistance devices!

Because an inclusive playground isn't just about the equipment. It's about making sure EVERYONE can get TO the equipment and enjoy it! ❤️

A HUGE thank you to East Fairfield Coal & Stone for all their help getting us the stone we need for this project! We couldn't do this without incredible community partners like you! 👏

🚛 Our turf is scheduled to arrive TUESDAY!

🎠 NEXT UP: THE WE-GO-ROUND!

Another exciting piece of inclusive equipment is getting ready to take shape!

So what exactly is a We-Go-Round?

Think of the merry-go-rounds we all loved as kids, but redesigned so children of ALL abilities can enjoy the fun together.

Because noone should have to sit on the sidelines watching their friends play. ❤️

🚧 The concrete footers for our We-Go-Round are scheduled to be poured TUESDAY as well.

🚧 DAY # 18: LET THERE BE CONCRETE! 🚧

Today was another big day at the playground! 🎉

The crew poured the footers for our We-Go-Swing! And who knew one swing would need 10 YARDS OF CONCRETE?! 😳

Well… apparently the installer did. 🤣🤣 Good thing someone knows what they're doing around here!

Another big step closer to getting this amazing piece of inclusive equipment ready for everyone to enjoy! ❤️

🚧 DAY # 17: Rain, Mud & BIG Progress! 🌧️🛝

Mother Nature decided to give us a little challenge today, but that didn't stop our crew! 💪

🏠 Home Depot made their delivery bright and early this morning while it was practically raining sideways! ☔

💡 Our lighting fixtures were delivered to Graft Electric this afternoon, bringing us one step closer to getting the playground lit up!

🚜 Despite a very wet and muddy start, the crew managed to bring in the track hoe and begin digging the foundation for our We-Go-Swing! Construction on the swing also officially began today!

♿ So, what's so special about the We-Go-Swing?

This isn't your ordinary playground swing! The We-Go-Swing is an inclusive, wheelchair-accessible swing designed to allow children and adults of different abilities to experience the joy of swinging together!

Its unique design allows someone using a wheelchair to roll directly onto the swing platform while others can join in the fun. It's another example of what we've been working so hard to create: a playground where EVERYONE belongs and nobody has to watch from the sidelines! ❤️

🚧 What's happening tomorrow?

The cement truck will be rolling in to pour the foundation for the We-Go-Swing!

🌱 And here's another exciting update...

We've officially notified our turf company of our progress, and they're gearing up to be TAGGED IN! 🙌

That's right... we're getting closer and closer to the stage where this construction site starts looking like a FINISHED PLAYGROUND!

Every delivery, every muddy boot, every piece of equipment and every truckload of concrete brings us one step closer to opening day!

Rain or shine, we're BUILDING SOMETHING AMAZING for Columbiana! ❤️🛝

🚧🛝 DAY # 15 & 16: DRUM ROLLLLL PLEASE! 🥁🥁🥁

First, sorry we missed yesterday's update! Between building a playground AND planning a grand opening celebration, things have been a little busy around here! 🤣

But we've got some BIG news...

🎉 THE "BUMPY SLIDE" IS IN!!! 🎉

That's right, Funland fans! The rollerglide is in! A HUGE thank you to PHD Manufacturing Inc for sponsoring this slide!

And that's not all! The Slider Winder, generously donated by BIRDFISH BREWING CO. has also been installed! 🛝❤️

☀️ A LITTLE MOMENT THAT MADE OUR DAY!

The weather has been absolutely BEAUTIFUL for building a playground! And apparently, it's been perfect playground weather for everyone else, too!

We even caught a few families enjoying the nearby swings — and yes, we saw some of the ADULTS swinging, too! 🥹❤️

If that was you, just know it absolutely melted our hearts! Seeing families laughing, playing, and making memories together is EXACTLY why we're doing this. We can't wait until we get to share this new playground with you, too! And we fully expect to see those adults out there playing right alongside their kids! 😉

🚧 WHAT'S COMING NEXT?

💡 Tomorrow, our lighting fixtures and more supplies are scheduled to arrive!

🚜 Thursday, we're bringing in the BIG equipment! Cement trucks and a backhoe will be on-site to begin installing the foundations for the We-Go-Swing and We-Go-Round — two more amazing pieces of inclusive equipment!

We're getting closer and closer to seeing this incredible playground come together!

☕ DUNKIN GIVEAWAY ALERT!

Contractor Spotlight 👷‍♂️🚧⚒️Chad Vollnogle

Ideas, design plan, equipment delivered, funds to start construction…. All things we had checked off our list before spring. However, one unchecked box was something we didn’t really even know we were missing at first. How are we going to build this playground we’ve dreamed up? Enter Chad Vollnogle. This talented Engineer, fun loving, father of two clippers girls … came to our rescue. Chad volunteered to produce the site plan and topography necessary for construction. During the height of Ohio construction season, Chad made time for us. He delivered everything we needed to prevent the playground construction from being further delayed. We could not be more grateful for all Chad has done to help guide us. He’s the man with a plan, and we’d simply be lost without him!

So, if you see Chad cheering on his little clippers✈️❤️, make sure you tell him thanks for helping build fun for the kids in our community. 🛝☀️🌳

Day # 14: Big progress and BIG savings! 💡💰

Today we finalized and ordered our lighting fixtures—and boy, did we get a deal! Leave it to our bargain-shopping President to find a 26% off coupon and save over $4,500 off our original quote! 🤣 We’re serious about making those donation dollars go as far as possible!

We also worked with Home Depot to get another load of Quikrete for our electricians and installation crew.

We gave the job site a cleanup ahead of any rough weather Sunday might bring and did our part for the planet by taking all that cardboard for recycling. With this many pieces, let’s just say there’s no shortage of cardboard! 📦♻️

Meanwhile, the crew kept rocking and rolling! Today they installed the O-Zone climber, the second-to-last ramp, the walking plank and the belt bridge! 🙌

For all you Funland lovers, do these pieces look familiar! 👀💙 The many little reminders of the playground we loved that now become part of the playground our kids will love makes this progress even sweeter!

Looking for FREE pallets? All the pallets stacked in front of the playground are up for grabs! Take them before someone else beats you to them! 😄 Please take only the pallets stacked out front and stay clear of the active construction area.
