TRUE LOVE 💙
This one’s special to me... It’s my father’s and my son Ethan’s favorite song I’ve ever written. It first came out on my Something Good album a couple of years ago... full of electric tones and those hidden slide guitars I love sneaking in.

But this demo version… we reimagined it for the New World Rising soundtrack. Ethan says it’s soothing... and honestly, I think he’s right. It even makes me want to dance. And yes, growing up in Miami with the whole Miami Vice 80s theme around me, of course, I was going to style it like that. (Ethan wanted me to add: it makes him want to dance too. 🕺💫)

We’re also taking this moment to introduce the Motion Poet Publishing YouTube Channel...

This is one of the first 13 videos we’ve uploaded there, and we’ll be adding at least three new videos every week. It’s strange to feel like we’re at the beginning again… but it’s also so refreshing. I’m thankful that you’re all here to watch this journey unfold.
And after you hear True Love, you’ll see... It’s simply a song asking a question, in a world where too many songs try to give answers to questions no one’s asking.

I'm the first and only subscriber right now, so come join me. haha...

“New York City Town”
I wrote this song 11 years ago while visiting a friend in New York City during a commercial shoot. She met me wearing a bright yellow dress, which stood out like sunlight in a sea of black and white. That moment stuck with me.
We spent the night wandering the streets, talking about life and music. She’s still a dear friend, I know the song implies more... But it was just a lovely evening with a good friend... and every time I hear this song, it takes me back to that night.
And yes, everything I do is intentional. This one’s being pitched right now for a few films currently in production. I’ll just leave it there... haha🎬✨👠🍸🍷💃

🔴 Running With the Angels

I’ve written a lot of songs over the years about loss, carrying on, and what it might feel like if our loved ones in heaven could write back... "A letter from heaven", "I’m a believer",

I’ve always been drawn to telling those kinds of stories. But this one feels different. Running With the Angels is more like a message from me... something I’d want to say to someone I’ve lost: I’m going to be okay.

And wherever you are up there, just know… there’s a piece of me running right beside you...

🔴Eggshells

I wrote this one with Adelle Borchetta, and it’s a song that’s quietly made its rounds over the years. It’s even picked up a few songwriting awards along the way... but somehow, we never got around to recording it properly until now.

I’ve always felt this song belonged in a film. There’s something universal in its message, that moment when you realize you just don’t fit anymore. It’s not always about heartbreak or loss; sometimes it’s simply about closure. About recognizing that it doesn’t have to be a bad ending… it just needs to end.

Driving Home 🚙
I wrote this one on a long drive down to Florida to visit a friend. Somewhere along that stretch of highway, I started thinking about how sometimes you’ve got to let go of where you’ve been... the memories, the weight, the familiar... so you can fully step into where you’re going.

It’s funny how the road has a way of reminding you what’s worth carrying… and what’s not.

Feel free to listen through the catalog; we’ve got over a hundred songs so far. Eventually, they’ll all be available for streaming, but right now we’re living in the sync-licensing world. Still, that doesn’t stop you from listening and finding a few favorites along the way.

Let me know what song you'd like to see a promo video for, or which ones are your favorite...

Devil’s Fire 🔥
13 years ago, I released my first film
Possessions
which, believe it or not, is still streaming on Amazon today.

This song, Devil’s Fire, was the opening track to that film.

Unfortunately, my movie is surrounded by a bunch of horror films, Mine is not a horror film, so this is where good titling would have helped me way back when... so if you're looking for it. I circled it below... haha

It was definitely my call-out to The Civil Wars’ “Barton Hollow,” which I actually tried to secure for the movie... but it was way out of my price range. So, I did what any songwriter would do… I wrote my own.

The track always carried that Lainey Wilson / Miranda Lambert kind of spirit... gritty, soulful, and southern to the bone... so we went back and re-demoed it.

The great thing about being a filmmaker is that I can layer in a little bit of my world beneath it, so I cut together some film visuals from the movie to go with the new version.

Hope you enjoy it. Fingers crossed this one finds its way somewhere special. 🎥🔥🎶

🎬 Behind the Scenes: “Born for the Fight”
Still a few versions to go, but I wanted to share a little peek at the process ... There’s something about watching an idea turn into a living, breathing moment on screen that never gets old... I really like how strong this demo came out.

More to come soon…

Someone tell Blake his song is ready... 👊😉
Here it is

♦️Kansas City.

I was about 25, living over at the Iroquois Apartments in Bellevue when I penned this little song. It was one of the first times I really tried to tell a story from beginning to end. all the imagery built right around the melody.

This one feels like we hit it square on the head. Excited to see who cuts it and brings it out into the real world...

Here’s a quick peek at “Let Down Your Love.”
I’ve been singing this song for over 10 years. It was intended to be on the last record, but the budget ran out before we could complete it.... I’m so glad to finally bring this demo up to where it always should’ve been. It’s exciting to see where this song will find its home next…

When I say everything’s being re-recorded, I mean everything’s on the chopping block. My good buddy Ben Stoll ... who’s a fantastic songwriter... and I wrote this song maybe nine years ago.

He sent me the old demo the other day, and it was wild hearing something I barely even remembered writing. A little blast from the past. So I’m giving it a new life, demoing it up while finishing this bluegrass album I’m working on for the Motion Poet project. This one’s going to fit in just right.”
