Opera at USC Opera at the University of South Carolina School of Music The company is made up of undergraduate and graduate students. Sometimes the program even tours!

Opera at USC is the University of South Carolina's School of Music's nationally recognized opera program. Directed by Ellen Douglas Schlaefer, the company produces two main stage productions (locations vary) with orchestra a year and an evening of one acts with piano in the SOM recital hall. Opera at USC also participates in community engagement including outreach programs in area schools and assisted living centers. For more information check out our website!

A huge BRAVI TUTTI to the company of COMPANY presented last night and tonight by University of South Carolina Musical Theatre. Great job by one and all, onstage and off. Opera at USC is delighted to celebrate our very own Dr. Lynn Kompass and Dr. Michael LaRoche, who were honored as award recipients at the 2026 USC School of Music Awards Ceremony.

🎶 Dr. Lynn Kompass is awarded the 2026 Cantey Outstanding Faculty
Award. This award is presented to a faculty member who has demonstrated exemplary dedication to the School of Music in the areas of teaching, performance, scholarship, or service. Dr. Kompass serves as a professor and vocal coach for Opera at USC.

🎶 Dr. Michael LaRoche is awarded the 2026 Centennial Outstanding Staff Award. This award recognizes a staff member who has significanty impacted the School of Music. Dr. LaRoche serves USC in IT support as well as the Opera at USC Tech Director.
