On this dark day, we stand in solidarity with transgender Missourians across the state who are losing their access to healthcare coverage as the new law goes into effect - trans youth, as well as trans adults on Medicaid, and those inside the prison system.
We are further devastated to learn of MU's decision to discontinue treatment of even established minor patients, despite Missouri law allowing for that treatment. This decision has an immediate impact on the lives of MANY transgender young people throughout mid-Missouri. We have heard that MU doctors are contacting their patients about continuity of care. If you have not heard from your doctor, we recommend that you reach out immediately to discuss your options. They care about you and will do what they can to ensure your care.
Denying us healthcare because we are trans, forcing people to detransition, scaring young people for the sake of political power is inhumane, malicious and cruel. This is part of an increasing assault on our community, and we must respond.
Please know that you are not alone. Many groups and individuals are working behind the scenes on contingencies and plans. We are gathering resources for youth and families and will make them available as soon as possible.
Reach out to us directly ([email protected]) with questions, concerns, and to get connected with groups like Parents4Parents and Prism for more support.
Our Emergency Fund exists to provide immediate, short term financial support to LGBTQIA+ people in mid-Missouri. To apply for assistance, or if you would like to make a donation to directly support our community, please visit thecenterproject.org/emergencyfund.
