Some highlights from the final week of Summer Art Camp: Animal Art! Campers had some cool guests stop by and do some live modeling as they created art inspired by the animal kingdom! 🐾🦎

Audrey has been a wonderful addition to the CAL team this Summer, helping with everything under the sun, from Art in the Park to membership letters! Always dazzling us with her strawberry earrings and can-do attitude, her presence is one we will certainly miss. We wish her all the luck as she finishes her last semester at Mizzou, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts.
Did you know we are offering a class this fall called Exploring Charcoal? During this six-week course, starting next Thursday, students will learn the basics of perspective and proportion while using charcoal. Plus, it is going to be taught by an amazing local artist + instructor, Shannon Soldner!
Shannon is a figural painter and is highly skilled in all drawing media. She will lead you through layering & blending techniques to capture your subject matter with depth & tone to create your own compositions. No experience necessary!

Life can get busy for middle schoolers, so this 15 week program is a great opportunity for them to focus on developing their artistry. The class will include drawing, painting, and sculpture skills, as well as self expression and meaning making through visual art.

🍃This is a monthly critique group for local Columbia artists where we have mini demos, material tutorials, and the occasional artist talk to explore art media & develop professional art practices. Don't forget to check out the amazing work by Truck Schachtman, currently hanging in the hallway at Central Bank of Boone County! Truck is a local artist, originally from Columbia, but they will begin studying toward a degree in painting at Boston University this fall.

Now on exhibit in our South Gallery is Paper Frontier, a new exhibit from local artist, Jennifer Wiggs. Jennifer melded mediums with her work in this show, using her watercolor paintings as background to her paper shaping, further abstracting the pieces.

Our Teen Sewing Basics Summer camp last week had CAL whirring with imaginative young artists and their sewing machines. Campers concentrated on strengthening their skills, using patterns & advanced sewing techniques to make clothing and other accessories, all while having fun and exploring their personal style!
Marking the halfway point in our Summer art camps was Camp Art Stars! Campers took cues from living artists working today. Highlighted here are the days campers learned about artists Yayoi Kusama, Lisa Congdon, and Albert Paley! Campers mimicked Yayoi's famous polka dot technique, Lisa's bold, graphic style, and Albert's monumental sculptures.

The Patrons’ Party exhibition opens today! All of these artworks were generously donated by our incredible artists and are available for the ticket price of $150. Buy a ticket here: https://columbiaartleague.org/patrons-party How it works: Buy a ticket, take an artwork home. It’s *almost* as simple as that. There’s a tiny twist… you’ll be assigned a random number and you’ll choose the artwork in numerical order. On November 1st at the Patrons’ Party, ticket holders can eat, drink, and listen to live music AND make your top 10 most wanted list - that helps when it’s time to choose your artwork! It’s fun and is an incredibly helpful FUNdraiser for CAL!

Come to the South Gallery at CAL for the Columbia Weavers and Spinners’ Guild exhibition - celebrating 75 years of fantastic fibers! Our hours are Tue-Fri: 11:30am-6:00pm & Sat: 11:00am-5:00pm Read more about the show below: In the fall of 2021, members of the Guild were invited to collaborate with another member to create two pieces that incorporate elements of both members’ areas of fiber interest. Guild members study in one or more areas of fiber arts including spinning, dyeing, knitting, crocheting, paper making, felting, weaving on different types of looms, and more.
