It’s officially grad season! 🎓 We are saying farewell to so many wonderful USC Symphony musicians who will be featured on our social media in the coming weeks, starting with bassoonist Aaron Nealy.

Aaron graduated with a Bachelor of Music from USC and will be heading to the Yale School of Music this fall to begin his master’s studies! This summer, he will perform as a member of the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra in Charleston, SC and the National Repertory Orchestra in Breckenridge, CO.

His favorite experience with the USC Symphony this season was performing Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with all of his colleagues. “These two performances were absolutely magical, profoundly rewarding to play, and truly unforgettable. I could not have asked for a greater send-off!” Aaron is also a previous winner of the Concerto-Aria Competition, earning him a spot as a featured soloist with the USC Symphony back in March 2023. Congratulations, Aaron! 🎶

Happy Opera Day! 🎶 In a few short weeks, Opera at USC will be presenting Puccini’s Gianni Schicchi with musicians from the USC Symphony playing in the pit and Emily Jarrell Urbanek from Opera Carolina conducting!

Gianni Schicchi is a one act comedic opera composed by Giacomo Puccini in 1917-1918 with an Italian libretto by Giovacchino Forzano. It is the third and most popular opera in a trilogy of one acts by Puccini. Its story centers an inheritance dispute within a family after one of their members, the wealthy Buoso Donati, passes away and leaves none of his money to his relatives.
