Our collection spotlight for May continues with longtime friend and partner, The Missouri Historic Costume and Textile Collection. The first exhibit MHCTC and SHSMO hosted in SHSMO’s new Center for Missouri Studies was “Missouri Women: Suffrage to Statecraft” which, in 2020, commemorated the centennial anniversary of women’s suffrage and examined the roles of Missouri women in the national suffrage movement, as well as trailblazing women in Missouri politics before and after ratification of the federal amendment. You can see a virtual version of this exhibit at: https://mhctc.missouri.edu/exhibitions/missouri-women-suffrage-to-statecraft/

Meanwhile, you can see current MHCTC and SHSMO collaboration “MOda 200: Style Makers, Merchants and Memories” on display now at the Center for Missouri Studies in downtown Columbia: https://shsmo.org/exhibitions/moda-200

This image from new exhibition “Mr. Pruitt’s Possum Town” depicts Lambuth (Pruitt’s son), Jim (Pruitt’s brother), and O.N. Pruitt circa 1925. Otis Noel Pruitt was a white photographer who documented life from 1920-1960 in the segregated town of Columbus, Mississippi–known locally as "Possum Town.” A selection of Pruitt’s photographs is on display now in the SHSMO Art Galleries.

The exhibition is sponsored by the National Endowment for the Humanities and presented in partnership with the Missouri School of Journalism; learn more: https://buff.ly/3BPDQdA and join us August 25 for an opening reception with curator Dr. Berkley Hudson!
