His work is often whimsical, comes with a punchline, or fun story, and his subjects include wildlife and made up characters. Ginny Merett is a collage artist inspired by stylish woman from her grandmother’s era. She reconstructs magazine pages and found papers into unique characters and scenes. Ms. Merett started exhibiting her work at the age of 60 after a career teaching art in public schools. Since then, her award winning collage pieces have been published in several publications and exhibited in many solo and group exhibits throughout South Carolina. Only 6 days until Kennan Terrace Art in the Yard 2025! Today's first featured artist is Catalina Keller!

Catalina Keller has been surrounded by art her entire life. Her mother, Ce Ce, always made sure she had access to art, from fairs and galleries to creative materials at home. Though she chose to pursue the performing arts, Catalina continued her connection with the painting and illustration community though being an artist's model for many an educational and professional artist group. It wasn't until this past year that she decided to listen to a long-calling voice and take up the paintbrushes herself. Catalina is a self-described "incurable horizon-gazer". Her images are inspired by landscapes and creatures just a little beyond the visual periphery of this world. She would currently call her style "rapidly evolving" as every new work seems to bring a new skill or understanding.

You may never have heard of Diane Hare but she has been drawing and painting ever since she could hold a pencil and brush. She creates for the sheer enjoyment of it and though she has been told she has a dark side she believes it is better to put it on canvas and hope to find some measure of beauty in it than suppress it. Emily Wright (she/her) AKA e.lois wright is a SC native, Lander University Graduate (B.A./English) and a budding local artisan in the LGBTQ community in Columbia, SC.

Emily is an extroverted spirit whose passion for Life comes wrapped up in a myriad of colorful expressions. A "wordsmith on an artisan's path", her life-goal is to explore and share with others how to be the very best version of Self, simultaneously allowing the best version of the Collective.

Forever an eager, hands-on student, Emily is no stranger to trying new hobbies and learning new skills. In her early creative years, Emily was drawn to decoupage and creating unique and bold jewelry from broken and discarded necklaces and found pieces of glass and metal, selling her work under the name
"Balanced Distractions"

Over the last twenty years, Emily has expanded her media to include acrylic and oil, decor with found objects, up-cycled furniture, yard art, handmade journals, photography and poetry. Theater with costuming and make-up may be her favorite pastime of all time--especially, the Art and Joy of DRAG, creatively transforming Self into familiar celebrity characters, like the saucy Jack Sparrow and Purple Rain's PRINCE. However, helping others shape-shift is her truest delight!

In the last year, as a lover of music and all of its innate healing qualities, Emily has begun learning the hand pan and sharing original compositions with her new instrument, a unique steel drum tuned to 432 hz--love frequency-- intended for offering sound clearing and moments of deep meditation.

The general consensus: Emily loves Love...to create it, feel it, gift it, receive--to be it.

Bohumila Augustinová was born and raised in former Czechoslovakia, now Czech Republic. She has a degree in fashion design and is the former leader of Yarnbombers of Columbia and former curator for Anastasia and Friends gallery. Over the years she worked with wire, fiber, recycled materials, but her current passion is ceramics. She was introduced to clay over 7 years ago when she accepted a position as arts and culture specialist for Columbia Art Center where she later served as the director. When she’s not working, she is at home creating with clay and exploring new techniques.

Flavia is a Sustainable artist based in Columbia, SC. Her work is created with strips of recycled paper collected from magazines, flyers and papers found in my daily life. As a sustainable artist, she tries to encourages others to follow her mantra: Reduce, Reuse, Refuse, Recycle. Her spores, corals, urchins & geodes speak of the damage waste pollution is reaping on the earth, and desire to instill better living practices to every human she meets. Coiling is a very tedious and time-consuming process, it takes countless hours to roll enough strips of paper into coils, quills or thorns to create anything of substance.
