🎸 Meet the Band - Reed Ellenberger - Upright & Electric Bass 🎸

Reed Ellenberger’s musical journey spans more than 21 years as a bassist, arranger, and composer with the Army Band. Originally from Pittsburgh, Reed holds a Bachelor’s degree in Music from Duquesne University and has also completed graduate work in Jazz Studies at the Mannes School of Music in New York City.

Throughout his professional career, Reed has toured in more than 17 countries and had the opportunity to perform alongside legendary artists including Ray Charles and Aretha Franklin. His versatility and experience across virtually every style of music have earned him a growing reputation as an A-list musician in the Colorado Springs music scene.

After retiring from government service for a second time, Reed has settled in Colorado Springs with his wife, Melissa, and daughter, Katie. These days, he’s enjoying retirement by doing what he loves most — making music — including performing with the incredible musicians of the Peak Big Band.

We’re lucky to have Reed holding down the low end! 🎶

🎷Meet the Band - Nate McMahon - Alto Sax 🎷

Nathan’s musical journey began in the 4th grade in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, kicking off a lifelong dedication to the saxophone. After high school, he proudly served his country as a military musician, performing with the United States Marine Corps as a saxophonist for the 2D Marine Division Band.

Following his military service, Nathan attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a degree in Saxophone Performance. He then spent time in Pittsburgh, where he established himself as a professional performer and private saxophone instructor.

Since moving to Colorado Springs in 2019, Nathan has become a highly active staple of the local music scene. You can catch him performing as a solo artist and playing with several standout local groups. He is a member of the Chick Corea tribute project, Chick Magnet, and co-organized the Black Hole Boogie Band alongside our very own Peak Big Band lead trombonist, Braden Barrentine!

When he isn’t lighting up the stage with us, Nathan is constantly refining his craft and is currently enrolled as a Music Production student through Berklee Online.

If you caught our tribute to Sonny Rollins earlier, you might recognize this iconic photo. But do you know the chaotic, brilliant story behind how it actually came together?

In our latest monthly feature, we're diving into "A Great Day in Harlem",the morning 57 jazz legends gathered on a single brownstone stoop in 1958.

Read the incredible full article below to find out how a photographer with no studio used a rolled-up newspaper megaphone to wrangle the crowd, why a jazz legend ended up missing the final photo entirely, and tune into Jazz 93.5 for the music that defined an era!

🎺 Meet the Band: Married Brass Duo Feature

This month we’re highlighting a special corner of the band—because sometimes the best ensemble blend happens off the stage too. Tom and Theresa aren’t just colleagues in the brass section… they’re also married. So we’re featuring them together as a duo who share rehearsals, performances, and real life.

⸻

🎺 Meet the Band: Tom Geiger – Trumpet

Tom got his start in music the best way possible—cartoons and Rat Pack Christmas records. He picked up the trumpet in 4th grade and played through high school in Maryland and college in California before stepping away for a time to focus on school and work.

He found his way back to music in 2008 at a local community college and hasn’t put the horn down since. Tom has performed with the Los Angeles Symphonic Winds, including a performance at Walt Disney Concert Hall alongside his wife, Theresa. He’s especially drawn to music that pushes him and keeps him growing.

By day, Tom is an electrical engineer designing digital circuits for data center microchips—but he’s happiest when he’s got a horn in hand.

🎶 “Always up for a challenge and a good chart.”

⸻

🎺 Meet the Band: Theresa Odello – Bass Trombone

Theresa started piano at age five, but once she picked up the trombone in middle school, that was it—no turning back. She’s been performing in ensembles ever since, including the Los Angeles Symphonic Winds, with international tours spanning China, England, France, and beyond.

Today, she anchors the low end on bass trombone and regularly subs with groups around town. Outside of music, Theresa works for El Paso County Parks, where she helps manage nature centers, the County Fair, and programs that connect people to the outdoors and their community. She also enjoys hiking with her husband and two dogs, or experimenting with new home brews.

🎶 “Always chasing that perfect low note.”
