The Black Church of Búðir is on the southern side of the Snæfellsnes peninsula. It is quaint and unassuming, but worth the trip to see the landscape and the lava fields that the area is famous for.

Located just 500 meters north of the Colosseum sits San Pietro in Vincoli. The Basilica houses the tomb of Julius II with Michelangelo’s Moses. Michelangelo was commissioned to build the tomb and took him 40 years to complete it. Moses can be seen with horns on his head coming from the 4th century Latin translation of the bible.

The Flavian Amphitheatre, commonly referred to as the Roman Colosseum, was built in the 1st Century and could hold 50,000 people. Originally the seats were covered with marble, but after the fall of the Roman Empire, citizens repurposed the marble for their houses and other structures. This panoramic was taken on the 3rd level and shown in the center is where the floor would have been with elevators sub surface for lifting animals into the arena. "Are you not entertained?"

Iceland is packed with volcanoes, glaciers, and waterfalls making it an outdoorsman’s dream. Gullfoss (Golden Falls) is located on the north eastern most part of the famous Golden Circle and is 32 meters high. One legend says that it got its name from a farmer who did not want anyone to take his gold after he died, so he threw it into the falls. When we went in December, most of the 4-hour day looked like this stunning sunset photo.

The most important site in the world for Christians lies in Jerusalem at the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The traditional site for Jesus’s death, resurrection, and ascension lie within this impressive edifice which dates to the first half of the 4th century. The mother of Constantine the Great was the inspiration for the creation of the church after having found a piece of the True Cross in the vicinity. After nearly 1700 years of conflict, restorations, and empire changes the church remains a popular tourist attraction in the Old City. This is the view from the floor looking up at one of the domes inside.
