Investing in the Baton! 🎵✨

🏫 Great music in our schools starts with the incredible educators who guide our students every day. Recently, the Center for Future Audiences and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic teamed up with the Colorado Springs Children’s Chorale to host a specialized professional development workshop for music teachers from Harrison School District 2!

🪈🥁🎺 From intimate woodwind, brass, and percussion breakout sessions with our Philharmonic pros to sharing breakfast and swapping teaching strategies, it was a morning full of collaboration and inspiration. As one participating teacher put it:

“Sometimes great players are not the best educators. Today’s presenters were great!”

We are so excited to see how these talented HSD2 educators bring these new techniques back to their classrooms. Will we have another HSD2 student band performing in the Pikes Peak Center lobby this season?

📚🎻 Big things are coming to the classroom!

The Center for Future Audiences team recently sat down with two of our favorite Colorado Springs Philharmonic violists, Erin Napier and Matt "Diek" Diekman, to start work on a brand-new pilot program: Storytime!

Launching in March 2027, Storytime is designed specifically for grades K–2, blending the magic of music with the power of storytelling to support social-emotional learning. We spent our first planning meeting reading through dozens of books, laughing, crying, and experimenting with our instruments to see how we could bring these stories to life through sound.

📖 We’ve officially chosen our first two pilot books: Mo Willems’ Because and Julia Cook’s My Mouth is a Volcano!

🏫 We have plenty of work to do before these arrive in classrooms, but we’re so excited to share this journey with you. Check out the latest Journal post for a behind-the-scenes look at how we’re turning pages into performances!

The 2026-27 Pops series brings three fan-favorite films to the stage: Edward Scissorhands (October 30–31), Star Wars: Return of the Jedi (February 12–13), and Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (May 14–15).
