Meet Bruce Hurd
At a young age, I observed my father as he sharpened skates for everyone in our club in Great Falls, Montana between the years 1965-1972. So I became an apprentice to my father. When I moved to Michigan in 1972, I sharpened skates for the Michigan State Hockey team and provided them with general skate maintenance as well. I moved to Colorado Springs in 1975 and continued my competitive career in pairs figure skating, training at Sertich Ice center and the old World Arena. During this time, I learned much more with respect to skate sharpening from my head skating coach, Pieter Kollen. He was the inventor of the now famous K-Pick. After my competitive years, I skated with Broadway on Ice and sharpened and serviced all the skates of the professional skaters in the show. Many of those skaters were National and International competitors as well as World and Olympic Champions: Scott Hamilton, Tia Babilonia, Randy Gardner, and John Curry. After years of skating in shows, I purchased my own top-of-the line skate-sharpening machine, The Incredible Edger ™ designed by Sid Broadbent, and added professional skate sharpening to my business line here in Colorado Springs. I began by sharpening skates from my home workshop, servicing skaters all along the Front Range. I have also sharpened skates for competitors from other states and countries who are in town for competitions. In 2010, I sharpened all of the skates for the top Australian synchronized skating team when they were here for the World Championships. In April 2011, I opened Living on the Edge Pro Shop at Sertich Ice Arena. I provide all-round, high-quality service and sales for the skating community. I have an established clientele that hails not just from Colorado Springs, but from the Denver area, Fort Collins, Pueblo, Albuquerque, and Salt Lake City, as well as specialty clients in other parts of the country. I am a member of the Professional Skating Association (PSA).
