I began a BFA in the mid 90s, left to join the military, and came back after retirement to finish my BFA in 2020.
It took a 25-year pause.
I’m not always a “never give up on your dreams” person, but sometimes the thing you started is still waiting for you.

Meet 𝐁𝐫𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢 𝐇𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐭𝐨𝐧 ’21. She is one of the featured artists selected for the Dishman’s After School Special: The Lamar University 7th Juried Alumni Art Exhibition June 12-August 14, 2026.

Hamilton is an artist based in Southeast Texas whose practice brings together the hard materials of technical systems — computers, circuit boards, cable, hardware — with softer, domestic surfaces they were never designed to meet. Her work is built through accumulation and adjustment rather than pre-set plans, developing through cutting, fastening, arranging, and reworking over extended periods in the studio. Before turning to a full-time studio practice, Hamilton served nearly two decades in Space Operations, working inside technical, systems-driven environments where precision and reliability were the measure of success. After leaving military service, she returned to Southeast Texas and shifted into caregiving and making, a transition that reshaped both the pace and the logic of her practice. The resulting work holds engineered decisions and intuitive ones in the same frame, allowing structure to emerge through use rather than plan. Hamilton holds a BFA in Studio Art-Photography from Lamar University and an MA in Humanities from American Military University. Her work has been exhibited at Houston FotoFest and Art at CoS, Colorado Springs, CO.

My former supervisor & I met up for coffee. In talking about veteran life, I told the story of making art and finding a way to elevate the legacy of technical operations in new and interesting ways. He asked if I'd be interested in transforming some of his personal remnants into an art piece. I was thrilled to work on this, a decommissioned part of my former operations life, mission, and camaraderie and turn it into a wall piece for memory, curiosity, and storytelling! 😁

😁 I am thrilled to announce that Epoch 1925 has won the Best in Show award at the Window to the Stratosphere exhibit, the inaugural event at the Colorado Springs Airport, curated for ArtatCOS by Cottonwood Center for the Arts. I thank all who viewed the exhibits, voted, and promoted the arts in public spaces.
