To the parents of the children who turned our neighborhood sidewalk into a giant chalk museum this weekend…

I have questions. 😭🎨💀

Before anyone gets upset, I like kids.

I like creativity.

I like seeing families outside.

That’s not the issue.

The issue is that I walked outside this morning and discovered what appears to be 300 feet of sidewalk covered in chalk drawings.

I’m talking:

🌈 Rainbows

❤️ Hearts

⭐ Stars

🐶 Animals

🌸 Flowers

And enough colorful artwork to be visible from space.

At first I honestly thought there was some kind of neighborhood art festival happening.

Nope.

Just two very dedicated children apparently working overtime.

Now here’s where people are going to disagree.

Some neighbors think it’s adorable.

Others think public sidewalks shouldn’t look like a giant coloring book.

Personally?

I’m somewhere in the middle.

Because while I appreciate the creativity, there is a point where it starts feeling less like a drawing and more like a full-scale sidewalk renovation project. 😭

The craziest part is how much work went into it.

This wasn’t a quick doodle.

This was commitment.

Planning.

Vision.

Ex*****on.

Michelangelo would’ve been impressed.

So now I’m curious…

If kids cover an entire section of neighborhood sidewalks with chalk art, do you think it’s harmless fun…

or would it start bothering you after a while? 🤔

I remember when 20% just felt like the normal “you did the right thing” tip.

Now? You leave that and still find yourself second-guessing it after.

Nobody says anything out loud. No comments, no reaction. But then you look at the receipt and see 25% circled, the total circled again, maybe even a little note breaking it down like it’s mandatory.

And suddenly it doesn’t even feel optional anymore.

Prices keep going up, bills keep getting bigger, and somehow the “standard” just quietly shifts right along with it.

So now I’m just left wondering… is this still a tip anymore, or just another expectation we’re all supposed to hit?

I recently paid a plumber $300 to fix a leak. The plumber cut an access hole, fixed the pipe, and then inserted a square piece back in place without any further work. When I inquired about finishing the job, the plumber suggested painting over it, believing the latex paint would bridge the noticeable gap. Given the significant size of the gap, this solution seems inadequate. I am questioning the quality of work and wondering if I should seek a refund.

I am seeking professional guidance regarding a deck construction project currently in progress.

A contractor has completed the first day of work, and I would appreciate clarification on whether the current framing approach is appropriate for the site conditions. The design requires low clearance in order to ensure the back door can open freely.

At present, 2x2 timber has been used for the frame. My understanding was that a more standard approach would typically involve larger structural members (such as 4x2, potentially oriented differently depending on load requirements). The project involves a transition from an existing concrete area directly outside the door to a section extending over grass.

Additionally, posts placed within the grassed area appear to be 4x2 timber. My initial expectation was that larger posts (for example 100x100) may be more typical for structural support, although I am not certain.

The builder is open to discussion and willing to collaborate on adjustments, so I am hoping to better understand whether the current approach is structurally appropriate or if modifications should be considered at this stage.

I would appreciate any experienced input on how best to proceed and ensure the build meets proper structural standards while accommodating the required clearance constraints.

To whoever reported my truck the second they saw it parked in a fire lane… I genuinely hope that felt productive. 😭🚒💀

I pulled up outside a store to grab one thing.

One thing.

Not a full shopping trip.

Not a two-hour adventure.

I was planning to be inside for less time than it takes some people to choose a flavor of gum.

By the time I came back out?

There was already security standing next to my truck.

Apparently someone had complained almost immediately.

And honestly, the speed was impressive.

I wasn’t blocking traffic.

I wasn’t unloading furniture.

I wasn’t setting up permanent residence.

Yet somehow the situation escalated from “brief stop” to “official problem” in record time.

Now before anyone says:

“You shouldn’t have parked there.”

I get it.

Rules are rules.

That’s not really what surprised me.

What surprised me was how fast someone spotted it, reported it, and got the ball rolling.

It honestly felt like there are people out there whose full-time hobby is monitoring parking lots. 😭

Now I’m dealing with warnings, paperwork, and wasting half my afternoon over something that lasted only a few minutes.

So I’m genuinely curious…

If someone stops somewhere briefly and isn’t causing issues, should there be a little common sense involved…

or should enforcement be immediate every single time? 🤔

Maybe I’m overthinking this, but this has honestly been stuck in my head all day 😭

There’s a guy across the street who’s been outside doing yard work shirtless for hours, totally out in the open where the entire neighborhood can see him.

And it’s not like it’s a quiet, empty street either.

Families are outside.

Kids are walking around.

People are out walking dogs.

Neighbors are sitting on porches.

And he’s just out there like the front yard is his personal private resort or something 💀

Now, I get it—it's hot, yard work is brutal, and I honestly tried to just ignore it at first.

But after a while it stopped feeling like “yeah, it’s warm out” and started feeling more like there’s zero awareness that other people actually live around you.

When you live in a neighborhood, your outside behavior kind of becomes part of the shared space everyone else has to experience too.

I’m not even talking about rules or anything like that.

More just basic courtesy and being aware of your surroundings.

Maybe I’m old-fashioned, but I feel like people used to be a little more mindful of how they came across in shared spaces like this 😩

Am I overthinking it, or does basic neighborhood awareness still matter?

I’d like to personally thank whoever reported my car. 👏

I was inside Target for less than 10 minutes grabbing one item, came back out, and my car was already halfway onto a tow truck.

No warning.

No announcement.

No chance to move it.

Just straight to the most expensive solution possible. 😭💸

Before anyone asks… yes, it was a disabled parking spot.

But it honestly surprised me how fast someone noticed, reported it, and got a tow truck there.

Some people say rules are rules and I deserved it.

Others say towing should be a last resort, especially for such a short stop.

So I’m curious…

If you saw someone parked in a disabled spot for “just a few minutes,” would you report them immediately, or would you mind your own business? 👀👇

Be honest. 🚗💭

Tonight, a table left a $0 tip on a $19 bill because they thought the service charge was already the gratuity.

And honestly, I don’t think they were trying to be rude. I think they were confused — and that’s becoming a huge problem in restaurants right now.

Every place seems to handle service charges differently. At some restaurants, it goes to the staff. At others, it gets split, pooled, partially kept, or used for things like operating costs, benefits, or back-of-house support.

But at our restaurant, the service charge does not go directly to the server as a tip.

So after taking care of a table, refilling drinks, timing the meal, answering questions, checking in, and making sure everything goes smoothly, it’s discouraging to see the final tip come through as:

$0.00

The hard part is that a lot of guests probably believe they already tipped when they see a service charge on the bill. And honestly, I can understand why they’d think that.

That’s why clearer communication matters so much. If a service charge is not a gratuity, restaurants need to make that obvious before customers are paying the check.

Most guests are acting in good faith. Servers are just tired of being caught in the middle of a confusing system where nobody really knows where the money is going.

After enough nights like this, it starts to wear on you.

I know this is technically my fault, but I need to talk about this fence post because that thing did not move even one bit 😭

I was pulling into a narrow side driveway, going slow, trying to be careful, and also trying not to hit the parked car on the other side. It was one of those tight little spaces where you’re watching the mirror, the corner, the curb, and everything else all at once.

There was this dark wooden fence post right near the driveway corner. From my angle, it genuinely looked like I had enough room to make it through.

I did not.

The second my side panel touched it, I heard that awful crunch-scrape sound that makes your stomach drop before you even get out to look. You already know it’s bad before you see it.

And the fence post? Completely fine.

Not cracked. Not loose. Not leaning. Not even slightly bothered.

My car, however, now has a long scrape down the side, a dent near the rear door, and missing paint like something dragged itself across the panel on purpose. The post basically stood there like it had been waiting its whole life for this moment.

I’m not pretending it jumped out at me. I was the one driving, and I know that. But some of these posts are placed so close to tight driveways and narrow side roads that one tiny mistake turns into a repair bill that feels personal.

A fence post should not feel stronger than a bank vault.

Now I’m just standing here staring at my car, annoyed at myself, annoyed at the post, and honestly a little impressed by how completely unbothered that wooden thing is. Some people will say driver error is driver error, but tight driveway designs like this definitely leave no room for one small human mistake.
