Artist Feature: Kimberly Camp ✨
Kimberly Camp is a professional artist whose 55-year career spans painting and doll-making, with a body of work grounded in storytelling, history, and cultural memory. Her work has appeared in more than 100 exhibitions nationwide, including presentations at the Smithsonian, the American Craft Museum, and Prizm Art Fair during Art Basel, and has been featured in publications such as The New York Times, Essence, and FiberArts.
Camp’s dolls (featured in the Rotunda Gallery at William Grant Still Arts Center) are often inspired by Geechee stories, African American folklore, and archetypal characters. Created with clay, textiles, beads, and mixed materials, these works explore Black identity and lived experience while honoring ancestral narratives passed down through generations.
In addition to her studio practice, Camp has led workshops and residencies at major institutions, and her work has been highlighted in PBS and CBS features. Her many honors include two National Endowment for the Arts Fellowships, the Kellogg National Leadership Program Fellowship, and the American Craft Council’s Award of Excellence.
