The Addictions of Addiction

Addiction ain't just one demon—
hell, that bastard brought a crew,
one says, “Just one more time,”
the other says, “Sh*t… make it two.”

You get addicted to the feeling,
then addicted to the chase,
addicted to the promises
you make with a straight face.

Addicted to tomorrow:
“I'll quit when I get paid.”
Then tomorrow rolls around like,
“Bitch, that promise ain't getting made.”

You're addicted to hiding,
to lying like a pro,
“I'm doing fine!”
while your whole damn life says, NO.

Addicted to the chaos,
the drama, and the pain,
sometimes you miss the thunder
when you're standing in the rain.

But here's the funny part—
the joke ain't that you're weak.
The joke is addiction keeps on talking
like it knows what you need.

So I finally told that mo********er,
“You don't run this s**t no more.”
It looked at me confused as hell
like it owned the damn front door.

I laughed.
It cursed.
I walked away.

And for the first time in a long damn while,
I was addicted to staying.

THE MAN I CHOSE TO BECOME

I have walked through fire and carried my scars,
Learned how to navigate darkness by stars.
I’ve stood at the edge where the weak turn away,
And still found the courage to face another day.

I have known what it means to be broken and bruised,
To lose my direction, feel beaten, confused.
But somewhere beneath all the wreckage and pain,
A voice kept reminding me, Rise once again.

I am not what I’ve lost, nor the mistakes I have made,
Nor the debts of my past that I’ve struggled to pay.
I am every hard lesson that taught me to stand,
Every tear that I swallowed, each scar on my hands.

For a man is not measured by where he has been,
But by how he gets up when he falls down again.
And the strongest of souls aren't the ones without fear—
They are those who keep walking when fear whispers near.

I have faced my own demons; I know them by name,
They once knew my weakness, my sorrow, my shame.
But I learned that a dragon looks smaller somehow
When you stop running from it and face it right now.

So I sharpened my courage and strengthened my soul,
Piece by piece, day by day, I rebuilt what was whole.
I stopped asking the world to forgive who I'd been,
And started becoming the man I saw within.

Now love is the compass that points me ahead,
Hope is the fire that burns where fear bled.
And the woman beside me gives reason to fight,
To build something lasting, something honest and right.

We're not promised tomorrow, nor sheltered from rain,
But I'll walk through the storms and I'll shoulder the pain.
Because love isn't perfect, and life isn't fair—
It's choosing each other when nobody's there.

So if someday they ask what became of this man,
Tell them he stumbled—but rose when he can.
Tell them he fought when surrender seemed right,
And turned all his darkness into his own light.

I don't need a crown to prove what I've won,
Or applause to announce what my heart has become.
My victory lives in the choices I make—
In the life I'm rebuilding, in every risk I take.

For I've learned that the greatest triumph of all
Isn't never getting lost, or refusing to fall.
It's standing back up with your head held high,
And choosing to live when you once chose to die.

So here I stand—scarred, but finally free,
No longer the man that I once used to be.
I have faced my own darkness, and still I can see—

The greatest thing I ever conquered
was becoming the man
I was always meant to be.

WE MOVIN’ ON UP/Part2

I done been down.
I done been lost.
I done paid for my choices
and I know what they cost.

But look at me now—
I’m still standing tall.
Ain’t no dragon from my past
gonna watch me fall.

Me and my wife got a vision,
got a place we’re tryna call home.
New keys, new door,
new chapter,
and this time we build our own.

I’m clocking in,
putting work on the table,
doing what I gotta do
to keep this life stable.

And yeah—
sometimes that dragon comes around,
breathing fire,
trying to remind me
of the man I used to be.

But I look that mo********er dead in the eye
and tell him:

“You don’t own me anymore.”

I know your tricks.
I know your lies.
I know the temporary high
that comes with a permanent price.

Treatment taught me something
I never knew before—
I don’t have to fight temptation
with the same weapons anymore.

I got tools now.
I got knowledge.
I got people.
I got purpose.

And most importantly—

I got something worth losing.

My wife.
My home.
My job.
My future.
My peace.

So when that old life
comes knocking at my door,
I don’t open it.

HELL NO.

I’ve already seen
where that road goes.

I’m trying to go somewhere
I’ve never been.

Up.

Not sideways.
Not backwards.

UP.

Me and my woman
are moving on up,
and every step we take
is another middle finger
to the life that tried to keep us stuck.

We ain't rich yet.
We ain't perfect.
We ain't got everything figured out.

But we got love.
We got faith in tomorrow.
We got a roof we're working toward.
And I got another day clean
to prove I’m stronger than yesterday.

So let the dragon breathe fire.

Let it scream my name.

I ain't scared anymore.

Because I’ve looked death in the face
and decided
I WANT TO LIVE.

Not just survive.

LIVE.

Build.
Love.
Work.
Laugh.
Come home.

Put my key in that new front door
and know every inch of that place
was paid for with battles
nobody else had to fight.

So here's to me and my wife.

Here's to every hard day
we survived together.

Here's to the past
that couldn't kill us.

Here's to the future
that can't wait to meet us.

WE MOVIN’ ON UP.

And this time…

AIN’T NOBODY
TURNIN’ US AROUND.

MOVING ON UP/part 1

We’re moving on up,
one step, one day,
building something beautiful
that nobody can take away.

A new apartment,
a new front door,
a little more peace
than we had before.

I’m doing good at my job,
putting in the work,
learning that a man can rise
even after he’s been hurt.

And there’s a dragon in the distance,
breathing fire from my past,
whispering, “Come back with me…”
But I know that voice won’t last.

Because I’ve faced my fears
and I’m learning how to stand.
I’ve got tools in my toolbox now,
and my future’s in my hands.

I’ve walked through treatment,
learned the difference between
what destroys my tomorrow
and what helps me live my dream.

I’m not saying it’s easy.
I’m saying I can.
When temptation comes knocking,
I know exactly where I stand.

NO.
Not today.
Not tomorrow.
Not for anything.

Because I’ve got a wife beside me,
a home we’re working toward,
and a life worth protecting
that I never had before.

We’re moving on up, baby,
and this time we’re moving strong.
Leaving yesterday behind us,
building where we both belong.

The dragon can roar.
Let the whole world hear—
I’m not running from my future,
and I’m not living in fear.

I’ve fought too hard to get here.
I’ve come too far to turn around.
I’m choosing love.
I’m choosing life.
I’m choosing solid ground.

So here’s to the keys,
here’s to the door,
here’s to my wife
and the life we’re fighting for.

We’re moving on up—
and this time,
we’re not looking back.

The Weight of My Voice

I'm tired of bending just to keep the peace,
Giving away pieces of myself
So everyone else can breathe with ease.
Yet when I need the same in return,
The room grows quiet,
And no one seems to hear.

They call it compromise
When I'm the one always letting go.
But when I ask for understanding,
I'm met with silence
As if my heart speaks a language
No one cares to know.

I don't raise my voice
Because I love the sound of anger.
I raise it because my whispers
Were ignored long before the echoes came.
A yell is often the last cry
Of a soul that's been unheard.

Then they point their fingers,
Calling me the crazy one,
Never asking what broke inside me,
Never wondering how many calm words
Fell to the ground unnoticed.

I'm not asking for perfection.
I'm asking for the same grace
I've spent my life giving away.
Meet me halfway,
Listen before you judge,
And maybe my heart
Won't have to scream
Just to be heard.

Cosmic Chemistry

She got me orbiting—NASA couldn't map this route,
Heart in another galaxy, ain't no easy way out.
She my North Star, every other light too dim,
Even black holes jealous 'cause she pulled me in.

We got trust like gravity—it never lets go,
Respect like the sunrise, always stealing the show.
Forever in my system like planets in spin,
She the only universe that I'm living in.

Cupid got Wi-Fi, now my signal stays strong,
She corrected all my wrongs without proving me wrong.
Our love's so loud the Milky Way turned its head,
Even shooting stars wish they landed in our bed.

She laughs, I lose oxygen—Houston, I can't breathe,
Her smile got constellations hiding up their sleeves.
She my favorite mission, my once-in-a-lifetime flight,
Turning every dark space into Saturday night.

If love's a rocket, then we're breaking every law,
Leaving jealous comets frozen just to watch in awe.
They say space is endless—but they never met her eyes,
That's the only place where forever really lies.
