October 19, 2024.....put this date on your calendars. What a line up for the Vital Buffalo Farm this year. Come one and all. We have the very well known and loved AniKituwha Warriors from Cherokee, NC, as well as the Ratlesnake Mountain drum from the Eastern Band of Cherokee NC. There will be a Grand Entry of flags and several Native American dancers. Great Bluegrass music. Free bison eats for everyone.
But the best part of all is the blessing of the newest members to the Buffalo Farm that will continue to bring a legacy to the area and to all of us.
I have attached the schedule of events flyer with the address and times....so get there early and enjoy!!!
See you all soon!!!

Why True Myths Resonate: Ordinary People, Extraordinary Courage
My son asked me yesterday: “Why don’t you watch the Marvel movies? They are all about myths. You like myths.”
I said: “Hmm… Good question. You know, some myths are more true than others. The Marvel movies are all about giants among men, not men among giants. In a true myth, the hero is a man, not a superman. It’s much easier for an ordinary person to relate to Frodo Baggins than Iron Man.”
I saw he was intrigued, so I left him at that. A thought from G.K. Chesterton popped up,
“To be in the weakest camp is to be in the strongest school.”
In a true myth, an ordinary person is caught up in extraordinary circumstances. Like Frodo in a barrow-down, we have to grapple with forces that are much much stronger than us. We are not Thor or Loki. We can’t wield the Mjölnir hammer. We are in the weakest camp but in the strongest school.
It’s a school in which our hidden spiritual power gets awakened. When we face a Goliath, we will either cower or get awakened. When we face Barrow-wights, we will either escape by putting on the Ring or wake up to an idea of a noble end.
“There is a seed of courage hidden (often deeply, it is true) in the heart of the fattest and most timid hobbit, waiting for some final and desperate danger to make it grow. Frodo was neither very fat nor very timid; indeed, though he did not know it, Bilbo (and Gandalf) had thought him the best hobbit in the Shire. He thought he had come to the end of his adventure, and a terrible end, but the thought hardened him.”
A true myth is about ordinary men and women becoming spiritual giants. It’s not about giants fighting other giants. It’s not about one Superman fighting another Superman. If the main hero is Superman, we can’t relate to him. He is no longer a man. It’s not a story about us.
A true myth is a story of awakening to your hidden power in weakness. We must not be stronger than a giant. We must be stronger than ourselves.
As G.K. Chesterton said,
If we are weaker than he [giant], that is no reason why we should be weaker than ourselves. If we are not tall enough to touch the giant's knees, that is no reason why we should become shorter by falling on our own.”
Modern myth-makers are heavily focused on the giant. They invest their heroes with superpowers. Gods clash with gods and prevail. With all this hero worship, they lose ordinary people. What we want and need is to awaken to the giant within, not to become a giant without.
We don’t need a new weapon or technology to become a match to the giant. We don’t need to be their match. We need to be a match to ourselves. A true myth always anticipates this corollary: when we become who we are, all Goliaths in our lives are defeated. We don’t defeat them with our own external power. They are defeated because we have become stronger than ourselves.

The Native American had a good and healthy, true and whole Image of himself given by his beliefs in a loving Creator. An Image that he was good, brave, valuable, courageous. This healthy self image made the Red men strong and this was soon seen and understood by their Enemies that wanted to defeat them. These Enemies quickly understood that as long as the Native view of himself was strong and brave then they would have to tear this down and replace it with something shameful, repugnant, disgusting and weak so that the Indigenous could be broken down and overcome. This tactic was/is practiced by Colonizers all over the World to take over lands and homes of the Original Peoples, to crush and disperse them. The first step in a political one, to create a campaign to sell the idea and image to the rest of the World that these Original Peoples are "less than human" and "not us". It is now considered an absolute science in cold-blooded ex*****on and is referred to as the Luciferian Principle. It is applied by first creating the illusion and establishing that a Certain Peoples are not "really" quite human, and as "subhumans" can be subjected to all the injustices and cruelties as need to procure their land, wealth, assets and even servitude. The crucial step in this Evil Human Husbandry tactic is to completely defeat these Original Peoples by convincing they THEMSELVES they are inferior, worthless and unworthy. One of the most scholarly books examining some of these practices is THE LUCIFER EFFECT by Philip Zimbardo. Underneath all of these cruelties and injustices of course is ONE DRIVING THING..GREED. THE LOVE OF MONEY AND GREED FOR THE LANDS, MINERAL WEALTHS AND ANY/ALL ASSETS OF THE PEOPLE BEING DESTROYED.

POST-PRODUCTION BLUES At the first of the month, at Ripple Theater, we just produced the seventh performance of the Brainerd Mission Project. This one was called "A Hopeful Mission' and included some re-telling from "The Trail Was A Circle" but also some New Stories. Becuase I research and write the scripts, like Rimsky-Korsakov famously said, "I try to do something New in every Composition". Once again, developing the material was a great honor and satisfying in every way, from our first production in 2015. to this latest one. But every time I have engaged in this wonderful initiative it has had a tremendous impact on me personally. While I am deeply grateful and honored, I have always inexplicably struggled with depression and usually some kind of sickness. As I am normally an optimistic upbeat person with good health it is impossible to ignore this pattern. But I know that when I walk through this door in our American history I will inevitably experience deep grief, shame and sorrow as I relive the history of the Native American Indian. I also know that there is something incredibly gratifying about pushing on through and taking the tragedy and reaching into it and bringing forth the hope, the success, the survival and the victories of these wonderful enduring persistent triumphant People, Our Nations First Citizens. But I also am forced once again to be confronted with my Nation's dark side so I will be saddened for a while. And that this sadness is nothing like the post-production letdown all Theater folk are used to. I have learned it just takes time for it to ease up. But I never have regrets and I will continue to support telling this wonderful deserving and triumphant story of endurance as long as I am able. Because I know that it is critical that we honestly face our true history straight on as we lived it with the choices, the behaviors and the decisions that we made regardless of how painful or shameful they might have been, or wonderful and inspiring and uplifting. Becuase my research has also beautifully opened up about the lives of so many of the Colonists Newcomers that were never a part of the dark chapters, and lovingly, compassionately risked everything for justice...like the brave Missionaries and Teachers that chose to go on the Trail of Tears in solidarity, with their Native American Friends. When I discover their incredible lights shining through the pages of our History, the darker chapters just seem to pale into insignificance...as they should.🌹🌳
