Maestro Bussiki was honored to attend last Friday’s solemn commemoration at the Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery and Memorial in Belgium, paying tribute to the American soldiers who fought—and to those who gave their lives—in the struggle to liberate Europe.

The ceremony honored three centenarian World War II veterans, a living connection to that defining chapter of history, alongside King Philippe of Belgium and senior Belgian and American officials.

Now in Bastogne, Maestro Bussiki is discussing a project that will deepen the historic ties between Belgium, the United States, the Sister Cities of Bryan/College Station, Sister Cities of Bastogne and the War Museum in Bastogne. The project will culminate during the 2027-2028 Brazos Valley Symphony season with the performance of a newly commissioned multimedia work by the Belgium Composer Alec Maision. The work honors those who lost their lives in the Battle of the Bulge, including the many Aggies who answered the call to serve.

The occasion was a profound reminder of the immense sacrifices made by our young men and women in the cause of freedom.

For 15 years, Andrew Wheeler didn’t touch his saxophone.
After beginning his professional music career at just 20 years old, Andrew eventually stepped away from performing entirely. Years later, a connection with the Brazos Valley Symphony Orchestra helped bring him back to the instrument and ultimately back to the stage.
Hear Andrew’s story, then join us October 25 as he takes the spotlight in Ibert’s Concertino da camera during French Masters & Boléro at Rudder Auditorium.
