I can't wait to show you new ways of using and applying color, masking fluid, magic eraser & special granulating medium to create wave crests and foam in a loose way, inspired by watercolorists Birgit O'Connor and Lenar Khalilov. I was so pleased with the work my students did last week on "Our Furry Friends!" Most wanted to paint their own photos, so we had a marvelous time. Here are the photos. I just had my first classes of the new year- Watercoloring with Notan as we reduced a photograph to just a few colors. I was so impressed with what everyone painted today and yesterday! The next class on our Furry Friends is next month.

Hi, all - my spring classes are on the website https://brazoswatercolorretreats.square.site . The January class, Watercolors with Notan is filling fast. I only have 3 spots left for Friday Jan 30 and Saturday's class is full. I just finished the sample for the Feb class, Our Furry Friends. The March topic is The Lone Wave and in April, we tackle Hot Air Balloons & Clouds. I hope to see you and keep making art!

Meet Ellie the young opossum rescued by the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden. I saw her lovely image on FB and just had to watercolor her for the holidays! I am planning on teaching how to watercolor furry animals this spring.

I am painting a few bison for the Brazos Valley Museum of Natural History's 20th Annual Boonville Days on Oct 18 at the Brazos Center. It's a wonderful family event. I just added the remaining fall retreats. So, on Oct 24 or 25, we have Our Milky Way and the Northern Lights, on Nov 7 or 8, we are painting a sea turtle (my example isn't done), and on Dec 12 or 13, we will relax for a Lazy Watercolor Afternoon, where everyone can paint what they wish - on their own, or they can pick a retreat subject they haven't done before! This week was a busy one! On Monday I gave a special watercolor class to 2 winners of our local libraries' art contest and their friends. So fun! Then this weekend I gave the class on Wildflowers, Bees and Butterflies... Have a look! Next month is Northern Lights and the Milky Way!
