We are dedicated to the art and fun of improv. We perform every Friday rain or shine on the steps of McKeldin Library.
“Improv” is short for improvisational theatre. Some use the phrase “making it up on the spot,” but we’re usually too unconscious to notice that we’re even making things up. Either way, our brand of theatre is created in the moment, often inspired by the help of an audience su
ggestion. We started in the spring of 1986 with the help of Yale’s Purple Crayon, and ever since we’ve been going strong, with weekly improv shows for as long as we can remember: Fridays at 1 PM, steps of McKeldin Library. Improvisational theatre ranges from the games of Keith Johnstone (passed down famously to Whose Line Is It Anyway?) to fully-improvised plays. We do everything, and everything in-between. Every year we travel to Chicago (“the improv Mecca”) to learn from the best (iO, Annoyance, Second City, etc.) and to visit our friends and Inc alumni who decided to stick around the Windy City to pursue their passion for improv, theatre, comedy, hot dogs, and not being in college anymore. We’ve also begun a bi-weekly long-form improv show, playing a variety of different forms every other Wednesday night in the Lab Theatre (Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center). By the way, it’s “improviser,” not “improver,” and it’s “Erasable Inc”, not “The Erasables.” Or “Indelible Ink.” Or “Erasable Unc.” Or “Sketchup.”
