🌱The next garden talk is here!!🌿

☘️Join the WSU Whitman County Master Gardener volunteers for Garden Talk Tuesday the second Tuesday of each month. The Garden Talks will begin promptly at 1 and will feature a different gardening related topic, presented by WSU Whitman County Master Gardeners and/or local experts.

🪴The next Garden Talk is June 9. The title of the talk is “Lawn Replacement Strategies” and will be presented by WSU Whitman County Master Gardener Sheila McKinnon. Sheila will present some pros and cons of traditional turf lawns, ideas for more environmentally sound solutions along with several lawn removal techniques followed by suggestions as to what follows.

🎋At 2 pm (or shortly after the Talk) the "Ask a Master Gardener" table will be staffed with WSU Whitman County Master Gardener volunteers ready to answer gardening questions and/or receive your samples of plant problems for diagnosis.

💥This week's youth spotlight shines on Kimber!!💫

🐴🐑Kimber is currently a Junior 4-H member in the Mockonema 4-H Club and has participated in the Colfax Junior Rodeo for the past 3 years. Her favorite rodeo event is pole bending and she spends countless hours practicing. She has shown sheep through 4-H for the past 3 years and first discovered her love for sheep while participating in the Daddy’s Lil Shepherd class for 3 years before she was old enough to have her own 4-H projects Kimber is always eager to learn new things and has attended the 4-H Cooking and Sewing Camp for the last 2 years. One of her favorite memories was making a cake from scratch and learning cake decorating techniques at camp last year. In addition, she tried showing pigs a few years ago in the Lil Squealers class, gaining experience with pigs too! Whether she’s in the rodeo arena, the show ring, or learning a new skill, Kimber is a busy young lady with a bright future ahead!! 🍰🤩

🌟Our youth spotlight this week is on Andrew! He has a talent for challenging building and craft projects and loves to show them at Fair! 🏆

🧱For two years in a row at Fair, Andrew has won awards for Lego kits and Fashion R***e (sewing an outfit, being interviewed for his knowledge and approach to the project, then showing the outfit in front of an audience). In 2025, his Fashion R***e entry was special: he created twin outfits for himself and his little brother, William. The two modeled the outfits together, winning Reserve Grand Champion. William was inspired to learn to sew this year and plans to enter his creation in Fair 2026! Andrew also won Grand Champion for both his My Favorite Outfit entry and 1600 piece Red Dragon kit, and a first place award for perler bead artwork.🥇

🎽In 2024 Fashion R***e, Andrew sewed a 3-piece outfit and won Grand Champion for both Construction and Interview & Modeling for this entry! He also won Grand Champion in 4-H for his Ford GT Lego kit. It was an "18+" kit with 1400+ pieces, and many moveable parts once constructed.🐉

🤠We cannot wait to see your projects at this year's FAIR!!🙌
