The Birth of Red Bird
Daniel and Marie fell in love over the course of a three month long show run. Marie went into it vowing not to get into a relationship, knowing how intense backstage can be and worried that what felt true under the hot stage lights would not last when exposed to the bright sun. Daniel already had a crush on Marie, and because he thought she was interested in someone else, he focused on being her friend. They became best friends. And then Marie fell in love with Daniel.
Imagine a happy montage accompanied by your favorite upbeat pop song: Daniel and Marie dating and making plans for the future. They draw plans and logos and gesture wildly as they talk about having a theater some day. Now they’re getting engaged, getting married surrounded by loving friends and family, then baby one pops out. Everything seems perfect. Then baby two comes out, and it gets better! There’s some kind of representation of putting their theater dream on hold, maybe they literally put the folder of ideas on a shelf. They are surprised by a baby number three, and then there’s a baby number four!
Your upbeat pop song is fading out. The words “15 years later” enter your vision. Daniel and Marie’s youngest is three now, old enough to not need mom all the time. They dust off the folder and get back to work. They’re ready to open the doors to actors, singers, dancers, writers, musicians, directors, and audiences. Daniel and Marie’s vision for Red Bird is a community of theater addicts of all ages working together in a safe environment to produce high quality shows.
