As an artist and art lover, this final conversation with Sergio Gomez hit so close to home. 🎨

We often get caught up in waiting for the "perfect" space or the right moment to create, but Sergio reminds us that art doesn't need a fancy studio to exist. It happens right on the kitchen table, in the small moments of play, and whenever we have the courage to just start.

His exercise of turning drawings upside down to discover new perspectives blew my mind! 🤯 If you've ever felt stuck or overwhelmed by expectations, this final episode of Divine Insights is pure healing for the creative soul.

EVERY JOURNEY HAS A HOME.

Introducing Sojourner: Homecoming, the final painting in my new Sojourner series.

42 x 72 inches | Acrylic on paper adhered to canvas

This painting is quieter than the others.

There is no halo. No target. No floral pattern.

Instead, the figure seems to dissolve into the movement of the paint. A substantial flow of white light enters from above, pouring into and through the body, as if the unseen is meeting the seen.

For me, Homecoming is about the final passage. Not as something frightening, but as a departure from this world and a return to something beyond it.

The figure appears to be melting, but I don’t see it as disappearing.

I see it as becoming.

The Sojourner series has been a way for me to explore spirituality, migration, identity, cultural memory, belonging, and the idea that we are all moving through this life carrying the places, people, and experiences that have shaped us.

And perhaps, in the end, we are all sojourners.

We travel.
We carry.
We change.
We bloom.
And eventually, we go home.

“They admitted that they were foreigners and strangers on earth.”
Hebrews 11:13

This is Sojourner: Homecoming.

The journey is complete.

đź’° Artists, do you know what it actually costs to run your art business?

In this clip from Episode 405 of The Artist Next Level Podcast, Amber Reusch, CPA and working artist, explains why tracking your business costs is so important—and how understanding where your money is going can help you make smarter decisions about pricing, investing, and growing your career.

It’s not about making your art all about money.

It’s about understanding the business behind your art so you can build something sustainable.

Episode 405 of The Artist Next Level Podcast is officially LIVE!

Sergio Gomez: Artist, Curator, Career Coach is joined by Amber Reusch, CPA, entrepreneur, working artist, and founder of Dots & Digits Accounting Amber Reusch, CPA for a coAmber Reusch, CPAone of the most important, and often avoided, parts of building a sustainable art career:

MONEY.

They talk about the financial mistakes that can keep artists stuck, from not tracking your numbers and underpricing your work to mixing personal and business finances, overspending on opportunities, avoiding taxes, and failing to reinvest in your art business.

And they also get into the mindset behind it all—including why being “bad with numbers” may not actually be the problem.

But here’s our favorite takeaway from their conversation:

Understanding your numbers isn’t about restriction. It’s about freedom.
When you understand your finances, you can make better decisions, price with confidence, invest strategically, and build an art career that supports the life you want.

Introducing Sojourner: The Blooming, the third painting from my new Sojourner series. Sergio Gomez - Paintings

42 x 72 inches | Acrylic on paper adhered to canvas

The vibrant green rises through the painting, becoming lighter as it moves upward. The figure is surrounded by energy, color, and a luminous red outline. White paint flows through the figure like a current of light, almost like fire, but quieter. More like life itself moving through the body.

The halo is made of roses like the ones seen in Mexican folklore, a symbol that carries deep cultural resonance for me as a Mexican American artist. Here, the roses become a celebration of life, identity, beauty, and renewal.

After Bearer of Light and The Vulnerable One, this painting represents another part of the journey:

We can bloom...

Even after displacement.
Even after vulnerability.
Even while carrying the complexity of where we come from.

The Blooming is about flourishing without forgetting our roots. This is Nuestra Tierra

The Sojourners series is a new body of work exploring spirituality, migration, identity, cultural memory, and belonging.

This work will also be exhibited in:

Nuestra Tierra: Breaking Borders
A group exhibition featuring artists of Mexican descent in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month.
