Space Coast Symphony Orchestra

Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Your Symphony for Everyone Under the leadership of Conductor and Artistic Director Aaron T. The SCSO continually redefines what a modern orchestra can be.

Collins, your Space Coast Symphony Orchestra reflects the best of Florida’s Space and Treasure Coasts — creativity, energy, and a deep sense of community. Founded in 2009, the SCSO has become one of the most active and innovative orchestras in the nation, performing year-round and presenting more concerts than any other musical organization in Brevard and Indian River Counties. Our mission is bold

yet simple: to make world-class symphonic music affordable, accessible, and inspiring for people of all ages. Our programs range from classical masterworks and Broadway favorites to film scores, jazz collaborations, and family concerts, uniting musicians and audiences through performances that are vibrant, inclusive, and filled with heart. Beyond the concert stage, we are deeply committed to education and community outreach. Through our Symphony for Everyone program — a groundbreaking “pay-what-you-can” ticketing initiative — and free admission for students, we remove financial barriers so that everyone has a seat in the hall. To date, over 30,000 individuals have experienced the joy of live orchestral music through this program, a model now admired nationwide. Each season, more than 60,000 people experience the thrill of your Space Coast Symphony Orchestra — from large-scale symphonic performances to children’s concerts and special collaborations. Together with our musicians, supporters, and partners, we continue to build a cultural legacy that celebrates connection, creativity, and the power of live music to uplift us all.

THE MAN BEHIND THE GREEN CURTAIN

Most people know The Wizard of Oz. Few know Phil Wilson. A legendary jazz arranger, Wilson took Harold Arlen's beloved score and transformed it into something completely unexpected: a dazzling big-band adventure filled with swing, color, wit, and imagination.

What makes the piece so special is that it isn't simply a medley of familiar tunes. Wilson treats the music as a true jazz composition, weaving together Over the Rainbow, We're Off to See the Wizard, Ding D**g! The Witch Is Dead, and other beloved melodies into a vibrant musical journey that feels both nostalgic and entirely new. The result is pure magic.

You recognize every turn of the Yellow Brick Road, but suddenly you're hearing Oz through soaring brass, lush saxophones, swinging rhythms, and the unmistakable sound of a jazz orchestra at full power.

Before Sinatra takes the stage, before Fly Me to the Moon, before My Kind of Town...

there's Phil Wilson.

And once you hear his Wizard of Oz Suite, you'll never hear Oz the same way again.
