Join us for unforgettable performances and experience community theatre at its finest! Established as the “Aladdin” theatre, the doors opened to the public on August 18th, 1924, showing silent movies. Later, Brevard’s first “talkie” movie house became known as “the showplace of the Indian River Section”. As the owners changed through the years, the theatre featured vaudeville acts, served as a sta

tion for the American Red Cross during wartime and then became the State Theatre featuring movies on the “big picture screen”. Several owners and several decades later, the building was purchased by the City of Cocoa and renamed The Cocoa Village Playhouse. In August of 1984, Brevard Community College District Board of Trustees acquired the building for $1 with the understanding that the college would take the responsibility of ownership and make the theatre operate in the best interest of the community. The Trustees immediately established a 501(c)(3) not for profit Direct Support Organization with its own Board of Directors who were given the responsibility of raising funds to make the Playhouse self supporting. Through donations from individuals, organizations, corporations and grants from Foundations, as well as the State of Florida, the Playhouse was restored operational and began producing community based musicals in 1989 featuring local volunteer performers. In 1991, the Playhouse was accepted onto the National Register of Historic Places in Tallahassee and the official corporate name became The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse. As the programming grew and became popular, the Stars of Tomorrow youth program was established in 1992 beginning with eight young people and now has over 264 participants each season featuring youth ages 7 through high school graduation. The program instructs them in not only the performing arts but life management skills as each “Star” is required to maintain a 3.0 grade point average in their classes. The performer base has now grown to over 600 volunteers who rotate throughout the productions each year with a core group known as the “Gold Star Performers” who perform in consecutive performances each season. An audience base of 4,000 season patrons support the Playhouse each year and performances are known to sell out to the public before the run of each production is finished. Over 55,000 audience viewers participate each year. Due to the growth of the programs, a Capital Campaign was launched to raise $2.5 million dollars to build a Technical Support Annex on the property east of the historic building which was donated by Harrison Vanderslice. The project totals $2.5 million and the Playhouse is continuing to raise the remaining $485,000 in funds needed for completion. Known to all as “Broadway on Brevard” this team of artists including performers, musicians, technical staff, costume & lighting designers, set builders, office staff and all volunteers who give so much in each area that is needed, are truly an example of one of the highest quality community theatres in our country. A very special thank you to the City of Cocoa Council Members and Administration, Dee and Don Hendrick, our many Sponsors for their generosity in underwriting our TWENTY-SECOND SEASON, and to all of our Season Patrons and many volunteers. Our Programs are sponsored in part through the Brevard County Board of County Commissioners Cultural Grant through the Brevard Cultural Alliance, The Margaret Heins Foundations and contributions from individuals, corporations, and organizations.

A season update for our patrons

The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse has made the decision to postpone our upcoming production of CASANOVA: A NEW MUSICAL, originally scheduled for September 4–13, 2026, as part of our 37th Season of the Dr. Anastacia Hawkins-Smith Broadway on Brevard Series.

As an original musical, CASANOVA is still in the creative development process. Rather than rushing it to the stage this September, we are giving the authors and creative team additional time to continue refining the show so we can bring audiences the best possible experience.

CASANOVA: A NEW MUSICAL will now be presented July 16–25, 2027.

The good news is that we are not losing a show from our season ticket lineup. We are adding one. We are thrilled to announce that JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT will now open our 37th Season, running September 4–13, 2026.

For our Season Ticket patrons, and for anyone who may have already purchased single tickets for CASANOVA, our Ticketing Office team will be contacting you soon with your available options. These may include transferring your tickets to a corresponding performance of JOSEPH, holding your same seats for CASANOVA next summer, and/or reviewing other options with our team.

Auditions for JOSEPH will be held:
Monday, July 20 at 7:00 p.m.
Tuesday, July 21 at 7:00 p.m.

Thank you for your continued support, patience, and understanding as we make this adjustment. We look forward to sharing both JOSEPH and CASANOVA with you, along with the rest of our exciting upcoming season at The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse.

As "Rock of Ages" takes its final bow, we just want to say thank you.

This show has been a blast, and that is because of the people who poured so much of themselves into it. To our cast, thank you for your talent, and the many hours of volunteer work you gave to this production. You brought so much energy and joy to the stage, and we are so grateful for the passion you shared with our audiences.

A special thank you to directors Pamela Larson and Nathaniel Knepper-Quijano, along with music director Amanda Avey, for leading this cast and production team with such care and dedication. Your work helped shape the spirit of this production from beginning to end.

To our production team and everyone working behind the scenes, thank you for always going the extra mile. The lights, sound, costumes, sets, props, backstage work, and every detail in between are what help make the magic happen. We know how much time and effort goes into making everything look and sound the best it can, and we appreciate you more than words can say.

And to our audiences, thank you for showing up with so much energy. Your laughter, applause, and cheers feed our souls as artists. That connection is why live theatre is so important.

Congratulations to the cast, crew, and creative team of Rock of Ages on a terrific run. Thank you for rocking with us. 🤟
