Surfside Playhouse is a community theatre dedicated to the performing arts through productions, presentations, education and outreach. In April of 1959, a dynamic and excited group of erstwhile Thespians presented its plans for a live theatre in Brevard County. The Players began implementing its plans, approved by city officials, civic groups and local residents. In May, 1959, their first producti

on, "The Moon is Blue" was presented at the Cocoa Beach Fire House. In following years, the Players staged their shows at the fire house, in churches & motels, and even on the beach! On January 6, 1963, ground was broken for a 270-seat theatre at the corner of Fifth Street South and Brevard Avenue in Cocoa Beach. In April of 1963, the dream came true with the official opening of Surfside Playhouse. Since then, Surfside has been Cocoa Beach's primary forum for the performing arts. We produce musicals, comedies, and dramas, both classic and cutting-edge, all with volunteers and local Brevard County talent. Our Youth Players program introduces drama and culture to students grades 2 - 7. Our Fearless Improv Brigade delights audiences with the art of improvised comedy, and we proudly host one-act plays produced by Playwrights Workshop of Brevard. No experience is required to audition for our plays or to volunteer at our theatre. Come perform with us!

Last week our Surfside community lost an important and special piece of its heart. Steven J. Wolf brought characters to life masterfully in Inherit the Wind, On Golden Pond, The Crucible, Hello Dolly, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof...and more. But his enormous, larger than life presence wasn't just treasured on the stage...off the stage, Steven brought joy, laughter, and heart to every part of our theater that cannot be replaced. Steven will be greatly missed but never forgotten. A piece of him will always live on in our hearts.

Please join us as we celebrate his life on Tuesday, September 1st at 2 p.m. at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indialantic.

"Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion."

In a beauty parlor in northwestern Louisiana, life is anything but boring! STEEL MAGNOLIAS, written by Robert Harling, follows six women over the course of three years as they face life’s challenges together and find comfort in one another. Embracing both laughter and tears, this story celebrates the power of friendship.

This funny and deeply moving play runs September 11-27.

On Friday, September 11, right before the lights go up on the first show of our 2026-2027 Season, STEEL MAGNOLIAS, join us for a special reception welcoming Surfside Playhouse's new Artistic Director, Chris Ikner.

At 6:00 PM you are invited to come and enjoy light hors d'oeuvres, mingle with members of the Surfside community, and spend some time with Chris as he shares what's ahead for Surfside Playhouse, including our current season, new programming, educational opportunities, and our renewed vision for the theater.

You'll also have the opportunity to see some of the new beautification and improvements happening around the playhouse as we begin this exciting new chapter!
